CHINA – SWEDEN - Whenever a specific sector of the freight and logistics industry rises to prominence there are always benefits for numerous suppliers and vested interests and the recent acceleration of ocean shipping of gas products is no exception. With the news that Trelleborg Marine Systems has been awarded the contract to supply docking and mooring equipment and LNG cargo transfer technology for the new Yuedong LNG Terminal in China this means the Swedish headquartered supplier of dock furniture has now brought the total number of the company’s such terminal installations in China to thirteen.

The comprehensive range of equipment being supplied by Trelleborg includes Double and Triple Quick Release Hooks with hazardous area compliance, SmartHook® Mooring Load Monitoring Systems with electric remote release, a SmartDock® Docking Aid System, a Central Integrated Monitoring System, Environmental and Oceanographic Monitoring System and a Trelleborg SeaTechnik Fibre Optic Ship Shore Link. Trelleborg will also supply a Portable Handheld Unit (PHU) for dual berth installation and a Carry On Board (COB) laptop system for single berth installation.

The Trelleborg SeaTechnik SSL shore system ensures Yeudong LNG’s compatibility with the majority of the world’s LNGC fleet, helping to maximise the gas trading benefits of their assets in this competitive market. The new 10.3 billion yuan project is located in southeast China’s Guangdong province and consists of the development of a new LNG terminal, LNG station, wharfs and pipelines designed to have an annual processing capacity of two million metric tonnes.

Trelleborg will also provide equipment testing, witnessed by the client at Trelleborg’s Melbourne office. Load testing on the Quick Release Hooks will be witnessed by independent third party Lloyd’s Register and a day’s training will also be provided to the client to ensure the operational efficiency of the products. Trelleborg say its SeaTechnik SSL system for this project further enhances the company’s position as a technical and market leader in the LNG Cargo Transfer sector and maintains its on-going record of securing the contract to supply a Trelleborg Seatechnik SSL to every Chinese LNG terminal that has ever been built. Simon Wilson, Managing Director of Trelleborg Marine Systems’ Docking and Mooring division, said:

“We are delighted our bespoke, high quality solutions will bring efficiencies to such a large scale project. It’s really a testament to our industry expertise and project management capabilities. After bringing on board the portfolio and knowledge of SeaTechnik, we know this will be just the first in a long line of projects undertaken as one company that will highlight and prove the natural synergies we sought to maximise.”

Trelleborg worked closely with project owner, CNOOC Yuedong LNG before being selected to supply the equipment and back up systems and Jie Kang, Equipment and Materials Procurement Manager with CNOOC Yuedong LNG, confirmed the reasons for selecting the package commenting:

“We needed a reliable solution that would not only stand the test of time, but came with the assurance of high quality aftercare. Due to Trelleborg’s unrivalled reputation and technical qualification, we knew they had the capabilities to meet our expectations and requirements.”
