UK – Following our piece on the 7th August, news in today that negotiations to buy all the assets of 91 year old Bury St. Edmunds transport firm Leggett’s had been successfully completed.

Smith and Williamson, the firm’s administrators, issued a statement today confirming Marmex Ltd. as the new owners. They will continue to trade as Leggetts Transport and had put up £500,000 to ensure the future of the company.

Before administration Leggetts, traditionally a supplier of logistics services including general and container haulage, container storage and distribution and fleet management, had tried desperately to continue to trade by the sale of assets, cutting staff and wages and conversion of part of its home depot into a truck park.

A spokesman for the new owners said it was their intention to develop the brand whilst satisfying existing customers.
