TAIWAN – Whilst Europe was digesting its collective Boxing Day feast the Far East saw the Evergreen Group holding the naming ceremony for Ever Lunar, the seventh and latest of the newbuild L type vessels to be constructed by the CSBC Corporation in Evergreen’s home base of Taiwan. The new container vessel, with a capacity of 8,508 TEU, will be delivered in January and join Evergreen Line's Far East - Arabian Persian Gulf (APG) service.

As with her sister ships, the Ever Lunar stands at almost 335 metres long with a beam of 45.8 metres and a draft of 14.2 metres. She can attain a cruising speed of 24.5 knots and the ceremony sees Evergreen approaching the end of its vessel replacement programme, with twenty L types having now been completed by Samsung Heavy Industries and only another three ships from the ten units of the same specifications from CSBC remaining undelivered, these being due by the third quarter of 2015 and to be balanced by the redelivery of vessels currently on charter when their charter periods expire.

In addition to the fleet renewal programme, Evergreen says it is consolidating its service cooperation with strategic partners, including those in the CKYHE alliance to provide a more comprehensive service and to strengthen its competitiveness. The naming ceremony for the Ever Lunar, which was officiated by Ms. Lee-Ching Ko, Second Vice Group Chairman of Evergreen Group, took place at CSBC’s Kaohsiung shipyard. Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Ko said:

“Evergreen has taken delivery of six L-type vessels from CSBC, assisting in our on-going fleet renewal programme, which is enhancing our competitiveness and operating performance. The name of this new ship is symbolic of a shining outlook for the container shipping market. We are confident that our business can benefit from recent forecast of market growth and that such momentum will contribute to an increase in profitability.”
