NORWAY – Ocean and air freight rate benchmarking, market analytics platform and container shipping index outfit Xeneta has announced the appointment of Peter Sand as Chief Analyst. Sand’s appointment comes on the heels of Xeneta successfully closing a $28.5 million Series C round at over a $130 million valuation. Sand is set to begin his role on November 1.
Sand joins Xeneta after over a decade at BIMCO, where he was responsible for analysing commercial markets based on the global economic situation and its influence on trade. Prior to Sand’s Chief Shipping Analyst role at BIMCO, he worked with D/S NORDEN, the Danish shipping company operating in the dry cargo and tanker segments worldwide, as a Senior Analyst.
UK – Perishable Movements Ltd (PML) has promoted Richard Hoyte to the role of Technical Director. Richard, who first joined the company in 2010 as a Warehouse Manager, has progressed within the business during his 11-year tenure working his way up to the position of Production and Transport Manager prior to his promotion.
In addition to the vast experience gained at PML, Richard previously spent seven years working for another large fresh produce handler, a role which included overseeing the efficient distribution of produce for The School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme in the South of England. Originally from Barbados, Richard came to the UK in 1985 where he spent 15 years in the manufacturing sector.
UK – XPO Logistics has announced the appointment of Arron Kendall as sales and marketing director – Europe. Additionally, he will serve on the executive board of the European business. Kendall will lead the growth of XPO's services in Europe, with responsibility for commercial strategy and execution, strategic account management and sales, reporting to Luis Gomez, XPO's president – Europe.
Kendall has more than two decades of management experience in business development, including more than 11 years with XPO. He most recently served as commercial director for transport in the UK and Ireland. His prior positions include business development for Norbert Dentressangle, acquired by XPO in 2015, and for multinational retailer Next plc.
UK – The UK P&I Club has appointed Anuj Velankar as Regional Loss Prevention Director. A master mariner, Anuj joined UK P&I Club in 2012 after 17 years at sea, sailing and commanding oil tankers and other vessels for various shipping companies. Anuj is responsible for handling the loss prevention and risk management aspects of Members in South East Asia. Anuj is also involved in claims handling work for the local Members.
Anuj was instrumental in setting up the Club’s webinar series at the start of the pandemic, as the Club pivoted online to keep Members and the wider marine sector updated on industry developments. Since April 2020, the Club has hosted nearly 20 webinars, accumulating an impressive 20,000 attendees.
UK – Specialist engineering and technology insurer, HSB has appointed Mathew Prentice as Cyber Product Lead. Based in Birmingham and reporting to Andy Bazley, Underwriting Strategy Manager, Mathew will be responsible for the development and implementation of HSB’s underwriting strategy for the computer and cyber account
UK – Associated British Ports (ABP) has appointed Chris Durrant to the role of Terminal Manager for the Hams Hall region. Hams Hall is one of the country’s busiest inland freight terminals and is owned and operated by ABP. Chris is bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience in container operation to this senior role, having previously worked for the Port of Felixstowe in senior operations and rail roles for over 16 years.
DENMARK – As part of the all-share acquisition of GIL, in which Agility Warehousing Company KSCP (Agility) has become a large shareholder of DSV, it was decided to nominate a representative from Agility to the Board of Directors. At an extraordinary general meeting, Tarek Sultan Al-Essa was therefore elected as proposed by the Board of Directors.
Tarek Sultan is currently the Vice Chairman of Agility and at the same time, he holds positions as a member of the Board of Trustees, Kuwait’s Silk City and Boubyan Island Development Project.
