WORLDWIDE – In the two weeks since our last set of appointment listings has come another tranche of staff movement in the shipping, freight forwarding and logistics industry generally, right up to director level. GERMANY – Christoph Franz, Chairman and CEO of Lufthansa, has stated he will relinquish his position from 31 May 2014 when his current contract expires. Mr Franz cited ‘professional reasons’ for his departure and a statement on behalf of the Lufthansa Group’s supervisory board thanked him for his service and commitment saying his forward looking decisions had left the company 'a leading European aviation group'.

AUSTRALIA – At the beginning of the month, DP World Australia announced that Paul Scurrah, former Senior Executive at Aurizon, has been appointed it new Chief Executive, replacing Ganesh Raj. Temporarily replacing Scurrah at Aurizon is Senior Vice President of Marketing Andrew MacDonald, who will act as Executive Vice President Commercial & Marketing while a global recruitment search is underway.

NORTH AMERICA – Volvo Trucks recently named Mike Randolph as Vice President of National Accounts for North America. Randolph will oversee Volvo’s national accounts team, which develops total fleet solutions for less-than-truckload, truckload and private fleets. He will be based at Volvo Trucks’ North American headquarters in Greensboro, North Carolina. Randolph succeeds Herb Broadmeadow, who will retire at the end of the year after 36 years with Volvo Trucks in North America.

US – RoadOne IntermodaLogistics has announced several new appointments to its executive team. Larry Cuddy will take up the role of Vice President Commercial Strategy & Client Solutions, Vincent Costagno is to become Vice President of Sales, Mark Pontarelli is now Vice President of Agent Development, and Paul Sullivan has taken up the position of Vice President of Finance.

US – GAC Energy and Marine Services has appointed Reggie Gray as its new Business Development Executive. Gray will be based at the company’s Houston, Texas branch.

US – President Barack Obama has nominated Acting Maritime Administrator of the Maritime Administration (MARAD) retired US Navy Captain Paul Jaenichen , as head of MARAD following the resignation of David Matsuda.

US – The Massachusetts Port Authority recently announced that Rachael Rollins has become its Chief Legal Counsel, effective September 3, and Deborah Hadden as its new Port Director. Rollins joins Massport from the Massachusetts Department of Transport where she was the General Counsel. Hadden has been acting Port Director since October 2012.

US – SMC³ announced earlier this month that it has appointed David Sexton to the position of Chief Financial Officer, and in addition to his new role, Sexton will serve as Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration and manage accounting, human resources and building services. Current SVP of Finance and Administration and CFO Joe McClure, will retire effective September 30. Sexton will be based at the firm’s Headquarters in Georgia.

GEORGIA – State-owned company Marabda-Kartsakhi Railway, has appointed Oleg Bichiashvili as Director General. Bichiashvili most recently served as General Director of Georgian Railway.

UK – Former Chief Executive Officer of Ceva Logistics John Pattullo, has left his position as Non-Executive Director to take up the role of Special Advisor to the Board at Ceva. Pattullo announced his retirement in October of last year but continued to serve on the company’s Board of Directors until August, when he became a Special Advisor.

UK – TJ Waste Group has made a series of management changes with the promotions of three senior staff to its Board of Directors. Former Operations Director John Gosling will take up the role of Managing Director, succeeding founder, Terry Higgins, who is now Group Chairman. Previous Transport Manager Neil Glazebrook is now a Director of TJ Transport and Jamie Higgins, former Operations Manager has taken up the position of Director of TJ Transport and TJ Waste & Recycling.

UK – Lloyd’s Register (LR) has appointed Mike Robinson to the newly created role of Group Customer Strategy Director. Robinson started at LR on 2 September joining from the Royal Mail Group where he was leading Group Strategy.

DENMARK – Norden has announced a new employee-elected representative to the Board of Directors. Operations Manager Jacob Koch Nielsen resigned his position and, at the same time, withdrew from the Board of Directors as employee-elected representative as of 30 September. He is replaced by Captain Lars Enkegaard Biilmann, who will join the Board of Directors as of 1 October.

FRANCE – Georges Azevedo has been appointed Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Geodis Wilson and will join the Board of Management of Geodis Wilson, the Freight Forwarding Division of Geodis. Since joining the Geodis Group, he has held various positions in Finance, previously being Finance Director for the Industrial Project division.
