Further Strengthening of Relationship

SOUTH AFRICA – Swiss-based logistics and 3PL provider Kuehne + Nagel has been awarded a contract to manage the BMW South Africa Parts and Accessories Distribution Centre in Midrand, Gauteng. From the facility, parts are distributed to the whole of South Africa as well as to five neighbouring countries.

The contract was awarded after Kuehne + Nagel was given responsibility for managing part of the BMW-operated logistics facility in early 2008. The success of their efforts led BMW to decide to outsource the entire Midrand distribution operation.

Following a rigorous tender process, Kuehne + Nagel was awarded a three-year contract to manage the entire national parts distribution centre. K+N will take control of a number of services at the facility including inventory control, returns handling and dangerous goods management. K+N will also cooperate with BMW to improve supply chain productivity by introducing new methods and practices at Midrand.

The contract reaffirms the existing strong relationship between the two companies. Kuehne + Nagel currently provides services from inbound to production and aftermarket logistics as well as reverse logistics in five countries, at twelve different locations, for the BMW Group.
