Korean Air still number one according to IATA

Korean Air flies nearly 9 billion freight tonne-kilometres last year to take top spot

The ‘Annual World Air Transport Statistics,’ compiled by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) have for the second year running listed Korean Air as the world's premier commercial international air freight transporter.

The airline flew a total of 8.82 billion freight tonne-kilometres last year, more than any other commercial carrier. "We have continuously expanded and upgraded our services to meet customers' needs through strong cargo operations," said Chang Hoon Chi, Senior VP of Korean Air Cargo.

Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific came second (8.25 billion tonnes) and Lufthansa came third (8.19 billion). 2009 is the IATA 53rd edition of the statistics.
