K + N Enlarge European Freight Groupage Consolidations Under New Banner

Ambitious Plans to Dominate Traditional Markets

EUROPE – Not for the first time a Swiss owned freight forwarder has announced plans to dominate the European groupage market within the next few years. Using a traditional ‘Hub and Spoke’ operation, Kuehne + Nagel have declared their intention to expand their overland network to encompass 500 overland lines by 2014, 200 more than at present.

Working from a central hub in Haiger Germany with seven regional hubs K + N currently serve 38 European countries in addition to their strong domestic consolidation services throughout the larger economies such as France and Germany. The company says it has continuously extended its groupage network through organic growth as well as strategic acquisitions since 2007 and intends to double departure frequencies on its international routes to 2,000 per week in the next three years.

Dirk Reich, Member of the Management Board of Kuehne + Nagel International AG, said the group we will add one new international direct connection each week during the next four years, with the objective of offering the 500 scheduled connections throughout Europe by 2014. To define the new services come new titles, there will be a single product portfolio for the groupage services entitled ‘KN Euro Line’ featuring clearly structured tariffs and set time tables. It is being supplemented by ‘KN Euro-Line Time-Definite’, which guarantees on-time delivery within an agreed timeframe.

There will also be ‘KN Parcel’ for consignments less than 32 kilogram’s and two express services dedicated to time sensitive cargoes,’ KN Euro-Line Express’ and ‘KN Euro-Line Express 12' offering shorter transit times and delivery before 12:00 noon.
