UK – IRELAND - Winners in the annual Export & Freight Transport & Logistics Awards 2012 were recently unveiled at a glittering ceremony at the Ramada Hotel in Belfast and a full list of winners is now available. Big winners were Stena Line Freight which collected Irish Sea Shipping Line of the Year 2012, best European Haulier was Carna Tansport of Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan whilst NMC Haulage of Dungannon, Co. Tyrone picked up Haulier of the Year. Stena collected the award for their RoRo Ferry services which cross the Irish Sea and Frank Nieuwenhuys, Stena Line’s freight commercial manager, UK & Ireland said:
“We are delighted to have been voted Shipping Line of the Year. The past year has been one of the biggest for us on the Irish Sea as we launched a purpose built £80 million Loch Ryan Port and terminal facility in Cairnryan, added the two largest ferries ever to sail between Northern Ireland and Scotland and completed the acquisition of our new routes from Belfast to Liverpool (Birkenhead) and Belfast to Heysham.
“Despite the current economic climate, we have continued to invest heavily in our services and facilities to ensure that we remain the ferry operator of choice. By continuing this investment, we have been able to keep our customers in focus, helping improve efficiency with shorter travel times and new sailing options, all of which have helped reduce journey costs for hauliers whilst contributing towards improved delivery schedules in line with market demands.”
Stena collected the DSV sponsored award after selection by an independent panel of judges including hauliers who regularly travel on the company’s vessels who voted on service levels, onboard facilities and choice of routes. The company also announced that this month it will be taking over the Baltic Sea services previously operated by Scandlines including Trelleborg-Sassnitz, Trelleborg-Rostock, Travemünde-Liepaja and Travemünde-Ventspils plus the route from Nynäshamn to Ventspils.
Carna Transport have been a stalwart on the European scene for several decades and last won the European haulier of the year trophy in 2008 (this year sponsored Iveco) whilst NMC are relative newcomers having been established only since 1999 their award was sponsored by P & O Ferries.
