POLAND – NETHERLANDS – P&O Ferrymasters says rising customer demand for freight transport between Poznan in Poland and Europe’s busiest port at Rotterdam has prompted the purchase of 150 huckepack trailers for its intermodal train service on the route. The huckepack cargo units, which have the flexibility of being able to be switched between train and road haulage trucks, are all fitted with telematics systems which will enable customers to track and trace their shipments in real time through dedicated web portals.

The logistics outfit says this latest investment builds on a steady period of growth for P&O Ferrymasters, which has this summer announced a sixth weekly round trip on its Poznan-Rotterdam train and the expansion of its logistics network into Turkey, whilst the rail terminal in the Romanian city of Oradea which it owns facilitates the onward movement of goods to Britain from Asian countries via the Silk Road.

P&O Ferrymasters is a European transport and logistics division of P&O Ferries which itself carries over 2.3 million freight units annually, and the new trailers have been purchased from German manufacturer Krone GmbH & Co. Mark Timmermans, Trailer Director at P&O Ferrymasters, said their versatility will bring both more transparency and efficiency to the service, adding:

“The world is getting more complex and we are at our best when we solve the most difficult logistical challenges for our customers. As part of the continuing expansion of our services across continental Europe and Asia, we are pleased to be able to offer the extra capacity that the 150 new huckepack trailers will provide on our Poznan-Rotterdam train.

“One of our great competitive advantages is that we have our own platform for the exclusive benefit of our customers, enabling them to track every shipment from collection to delivery point. And our Fr8Manager Transport Management System delivers world beating transparency, giving unprecedented levels of real-time visibility through the supply chain, allowing us to optimise resource utilisation and improve efficiency.”
