INDIA – Earlier this month at the Hotel Trident in Mumbai, the winners of the Fourth All India Maritime and Logistics Awards (MALA) were announced, and with fifty categories available it seemed that everybody won something on the night (there are fourteen awards available in the port and terminal handling categories alone) this however simply reflects the sheer volume of trade and the variety of specialist freight, logistics, container and bulk handling and shipping and forwarding operations which now proliferate right across the subcontinent.

A full list of the 2013 Award winners is viewable HERE and notable performances in the Port and Handling sections include Kandla Port Trust which collected the Major Port trophy, the Container Port Award which went to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), DP World Pvt collected the Pan India Container Terminal Operator title and Best Port Focused on India was won by the Belgian Port of Antwerp.

The Forwarding and Logistics sectors were also hotly contested with Freight Forwarder of the Year being won by LCL Logistix (India) Pvt whilst Freight Forwarding –Project Cargo was awarded to Express Global Logistics Pvt and while Maersk picked up the best Container Shipping Line title several rivals, CMA CGM, MSC, Rickmers-Linie and NYK all picked up Awards for various services to and from India.

Winner of the Project Freight Forwarder title, Express Global Logistics (formerly Express Transport) was congratulated by Kevin Stephens, General Manager of the Project Professionals Group (PPG) of which the company is a member. Mr Stephens pointed out this was not the first time Express had been selected for an award, saying it was a significant achievement in a competitive environment, whilst Express Director, Nailesh Gandhi, said the award would not have been possible without the support of employees, vendors, business partners and clients, and emphasised the pride the whole company felt to be recognised in this way.
