Shipping News Feature US – XPO Logistics has announced that it is terminating the employment of Kenneth Wagers, Chief Operating Officer after eliminating his position. XPO President, Troy Cooper will assume the responsibilities that would normally fall under the COO’s purview. The decision to eliminate the COO role was made after the company decided it was no longer anticipating significant merger and acquisition needs, opting instead to focus on stock repurchasing.

Wagers joined XPO in April 2018 from Amazon where he served as the Chief Financial Officer for several businesses within the company. Cooper held the role of COO prior to his appointment as President.

US – Crowley Maritime has promoted Ira Douglas to Vice President, Labor Relations, to lead the company’s relationships, operating agreements and partnerships with unions representing seafarers, terminal stevedores and truck drivers.

Douglas, formerly Director of Labor Relations, will continue to be based in the company’s Jacksonville office and report to Bill Pennella, Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President

He fills the role of Rudy Leming Jr, who recently transitioned to Vice President, Operations Integration for Crowley Logistics, overseeing the integrated liner-logistics business that includes the company’s supply chain services in international and US markets.

US – The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) has been notified that President Trump has designated Michael Khouri as Chairman, a role he had been serving in an interim capacity since January 2017. Khouri began his service as an FMC Commissioner in 2010.

US – Meritor has announced that Carl Anderson, Group Vice President, Finance, has been appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately. Anderson's appointment follows the decision by Kevin Nowlan to resign from his role as SVP and President of Trailer and Components and CFO to accept a CFO role with another company.

Joe Plomin has been named SVP and President of Aftermarket & Industrial and Trailer, and will assume expanded responsibility for the Trailer and Components businesses.

CANADA – Bombardier has announced the appointment of Steeve Robitaille as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, effective May 1. Robitaille will succeed Daniel Desjardins who will continue to serve as a Special Advisor to Alain Bellemare, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bombardier, and as Chairman of Bombardier Transportation's Board of Directors.

SOUTH AFRICA – Imperial Logistics has appointed Dr Iain Barton to the newly created position of Executive Vice President – Healthcare. Barton, currently the company’s Healthcare Strategy Executive, based in Cape Town, South Africa, is the latest addition to the recently introduced global sales structure, headed by Imperial Logistics International Chief Commercial Officer, Sandro Knecht.

Barton is a medical doctor with 10 years’ clinical practice experience. This has been followed by 22 years in developing and implementing best practice supply chains for major healthcare organisations.

UK – V.Group has announced Steve Holland as a non-Executive Director. He is currently Chief Executive Officer of Brenntag, a chemicals and ingredients distributor.

UK – Supply chain and logistics consultancy, SCALA, has announced Oliver Cofler as a new Associate Director. Most recently, Cofler held the position of operations director at Alliance Healthcare, where he was responsible for all aspects of operations across the UK.
