GERMANY/ CHINA – At a ceremony in Shanghai on Saturday the 23rd of July shipping line Hamburg Süd christened the latest addition to their fleet, the 93,430 dwt container ship Santa Cruz.

The vessel, the fourth of a class of ten ships that the German company has ordered, has a 7,100 TEU capacity with plugs for 1,600 reefer containers. The new class are the largest vessels that Hamburg Süd has operated and will all be delivered by the end of 2012.

The Santa Cruz - named after one of the provinces of Argentine Patagonia, one of Hamburg Süd’s most important markets – has been operating on the shipping lines New Good Hope Express service between Asia and the South American East Coast via South Africa since she was delivered by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in early May 2011.
