SINGAPORE – DUBAI - GAC once again won the title of Best Ship Agent at the annual Sea Trade Asia Awards at the Shangri La Hotel. The Dubai based group had also won the inaugural award in 2008, one of seventeen individual awards designed to celebrate and champion excellence in the world of shipping.

In addition to excellence in service areas the awards recognise achievements made by companies in taking steps to improve maritime safety, strengthen security of ships and port facilities, and protect the environment, issues close to the heart of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

Bengt Ekstrand, Group Vice President Asia Pacific, at GAC, received the award on behalf of the company saying:

"This award is in recognition of the excellence of our shipping services across Asia, in a year that marked a difficult time for many players in this industry. We are grateful to have been able to maintain the high service levels we set for our customers despite the economic downturn, as well as nurture and maintain good mutual relationships with our partners.

“Despite the challenges, GAC has continued its tradition of innovation throughout 2009. One example of this was the launch of GAC Ship Lay-Up Solutions (GLUS) to offer tailor-made lay-up services for ship owners/managers so they can avoid non-profitable journeys, reduce wear & tear and fuel consumption, and minimise insurance premiums during periods of low demand. GLUS is just one example of the value we attach to innovation and consistency, to serve our customers through thick and thin, and industry recognitions like the Seatrade Asia Awards motivates us further to achieve even more."
