Further Support For Freight Truck Drivers

Novodata Support a Good Cause - Again
Shipping News Feature

UK – Freight truck drivers spend many hours alone on the road and this often engenders a close community spirit when they are actually off the highway. The Professional Drivers Foundation (PDF) was established to assist its fellows who were suffering through difficult times and it relies entirely on the support of others to survive. At the CV (Commercial Vehicle) show last year patron Steve Parrish received a cheque for £2,500 from Novadata TAB from Braintree which enabled the Foundation to help a great many lorry drivers who desperately needed urgent financial support during sickness and hard times.

For 2011, Novadata have once again supported the PDF, but this time decided to offer some practical rather than financial help. Earlier this year, Derek Broomfield and Bob Thompson from Novodata offered the PDF a one week CPC Course with an exam to follow, valued at around £1000 for a suitable candidate. This type of donation is always so welcome because it enables the PDF to help lorry drivers whose health prevents them from returning to lorry driving, to pursue a new career in a different role, but still within the industry they know and love best and, in this case, it will give the candidate the necessary qualification to embark on a career as a Transport Manager.

With 2011 coming to a close, Novadata and the PDF have decided that there couldn’t be a more suitable candidate than Richard Welch. Richard has been sick now for 5 months and there is a very real doubt as to whether he will ever be fit enough to return to what was, a physically demanding job. He will travel to Braintree today for his weeks CPC Study. He will be staying at the Hampton by Hilton Hotel Braintree, who in support of the Charity, are supplying an evening meal and hot drinks free of charge each evening.

Richard will be taking his CPC Exam early in December and the Handy Shipping Guide would like to join the PDF in wishing him all success for his future career. Anyone in the industry who feels they would like to assist commercial truck drivers who are less fortunate than themselves, can contact the PDF at  or see our article last month requesting much needed assistance.

We have pointed out before that Novodata provide an excellent source of information for drivers and operators who have questions about the CPC regulations which you can see HERE.
