FRANCE – BELGIUM – SDV, the logistics and supply chain subsidiary of the Bolloré Group, has announced the acquisition of Belgian freight forwarding outfit EDT. Founded at the beginning of 2001 by Pascal Deelen together with other friends all with a shipping background, EDT trades mostly in conventional and project cargo shipments, mostly to and from Africa which equated to 8,000 TEU in 2012.

After the death of Deelen, its main driving force, the company was guided by another founder member, Carl Boelens, who had worked previously for Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB Lines) and Safmarine. Mr Boelens will join the SDV fold accompanied by four staff and the existing business will continue to operate under the EDT name.

The take-over suits the French owned company whose own Belgian operation, based in Antwerp, Brucargo (Brussels Airport) and Ostend, saw an increase of 10% in turnover, including a substantial amount of African business in the past twelve months. SDV Belgium last year handled 98,000 TEU plus 12,000 RoRo shipments overall. Geert De Wilde, CEO Benelux for SDV, says the deal means his company has gathered a deeper knowledge of handling and shipping bulk cargo and says this is needed as the company had noticed a shift from containers to bulk by some customers.
