Freight Forwarding, Logistics and Shipping Staff Movements Announced

WORLDWIDE – Leading the week’s appointments in the freight forwarding, shipping and logistics sectors this week come the news that the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced that Alexandre de Juniac has officially taken on the role of Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the organisation. He succeeds Tony Tyler, who served as IATA DG and CEO since 2011 and had announced his retirement.

WORLDWIDE – Steven Polmans, Head of Cargo at Brussels Airport Company (BAC), has been appointed to The International Air Cargo Association's (TIACA) Board of Directors.

US – Airline alliance oneworld, has named industry veteran Rob Gurney as its new CEO, succeeding Bruce Ashby, who announced at the beginning of the year his intention to step down from the role after more than five years in the position. Rob Gurney will join oneworld in October after leaving Gulf carrier Emirates, where he served as Senior Vice-President Commercial Operations, the Americas. As oneworld CEO, he will report to the alliance’s Governing Board, comprising the CEOs of all member airlines, and lead the central alliance team, which is based in New York.

US – L-3 Communications has announced the appointment of retired US Air Force Lt. Gen. Charles Davis, to the newly created role of Senior Vice President of Strategy at the company’s Aerospace Systems division, effective immediately. Lt. Gen. Davis will report to L-3 Aerospace Systems President Mark Von Schwarz.

US – The retirement of veteran Federal Maritime Commission Senior Executive Vern Hill, who has served as the Managing Director of the agency since 2013, has set in motion staff changes in three key offices. Karen Gregory, previously Secretary of the FMC, has been named to serve as the Commission’s Managing Director and Peter King, former Director of the Bureau of Enforcement, is to serve as the Deputy Managing Director. Both appointments have been effective since September 1.

The Office of the Secretary will be managed by Assistant Secretary Rachel Dickon and the Bureau of Enforcement will be managed by Deputy Director, Brian Troiano.

US – Salco Products has announced the appointment of Tom DeLafosse as Vice President of Engineering and Technical Consulting Services.

CANADA – Canadian Pacific has announced several changes to its Board of Directors, starting with the resignation of Bill Ackerman from the Board, effective immediately. Jill Denham and William Fatt have both been named to join the CP Board. Denham currently serves as Chair of the Board at Morneau Sheppell and at Munich Reinsurance Canada. She is also a board member at National Bank of Canada and Kinaxis. She joins the company having spent her career in senior roles in the financial services industry.

Fatt joins the CP board having previously served as the Chairman and CEO of FRHI Hotels & Resorts. Prior to becoming CEO at FRHI, which was created from the merger of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and Raffles Hotels & Resorts in 2006, Fatt was the CFO at Canadian Pacific Ltd., the parent company of Fairmont's predecessor, Canadian Pacific Hotels as well as CP's operating company, Canadian Pacific Railway Co.

Fatt currently sits on the board of the Jim Pattison Group and the Bank of Nova Scotia. Previously, he had served on the boards of Cadillac Fairview Corp., EnCana Corp., SunLife Financial Inc. and Enbridge Inc.

UK – The Fork Lift Truck Association has announced the appointment of Lee Medway as its first Qaulity Manager. A Chartered Member of the Chartered Quality Institute, Lee Medway joins the Association following a distinguished career in aerospace engineering management with the Royal Air Force.

RUSSIA – Volga Dnepr has appointed Vasiliy Zhukov as its new Global Director of Energy and Heavy Machinery.

NETHERLANDS – Matthijs van Doorn has been appointed as the Port of Rotterdam Authority’s Logistics Manager, as of September 1. Having joined the Port Authority team over a year ago as Business Manager Forwarding, van Doorn succeeds Wouter van Dijk, who has accepted a position at ProRail.

CHINA – China's parliament has named the son of former Premier Li Peng as Transport Minister. Li Xiaopeng replaces Yang Chuantang as Minister of Transport.
