The 15,000 square feet facility was designed to meet the highest standards in the forwarding of pharmaceutical goods and features different temperature areas: from ambient (15ºC to 25ºC), and cool (2ºC to 8ºC) to frozen (-15°C to -25ºC).
Gefco says that Good Distribution Practice (GDP) is that part of quality assurance which ensures products are consistently stored, transported and handled under suitable conditions and Josette Wells, Gefco Forwarding Quality & Compliance Director, commented:
“We are able to differentiate our service by holding a Wholesale Dealer Authorisation which demonstrates to our customers that we operate under the same compliant standards that they do.”
The Wholesale Dealer Authorisation allows the facility to store human and veterinary medicines as well as medical devices as part of its logistics and transportation services. The facility also provides high security levels including onsite x-ray screening for air cargo and constant 24/7 monitoring. The new centre is GDP compliant and ISO 9001:2015 certified. Anthony Gunn Executive Vice President of Gefco’s Freight Forwarding business line, added:
“The Life Sciences and Healthcare logistics market is changing and becoming more complex. With the increase in temperature-sensitive products as well as the regulations related to their transportation, companies need to put more focus on control and security. Gefco has a strong history in the Life Science and Healthcare sector. The opening of this new UK facility reflects Gefco’s continuous investment in this sector.”
