Freight Forwarder Toasts Desert Logistics Contract With Champagne

Kuehne and Nagel Report New Contracts

ALGERIA – CANADA – SPAIN – The two latest freight and logistics contracts won by world wide forwarding group Kuehne and Nagel could hardly be more different. Today the company’s Canadian division report they have been awarded a global logistics service order to assist SNC-Lavalin, one of the world’s leading engineering and construction groups, with the € 785 million development the company is undertaking in the Sahara desert 1,200 kilometres to the south east of Algiers.

The new plant is for the treatment and processing of natural gas collected from several major fields in the region and K & N are to provide a complete logistics service for SNC – Lavalin sourced goods emanating from Europe, Asia and North America. The company will be working once again in cooperation with its Tunisian partner S.M.T.I. – Transport & Logistics, a leading contractor for project services and heavy haulage operations in the Maghreb region.

“The signing of this contract is a further milestone in our strategy to expand our integrated logistics services for the global oil and gas industry,” said Nils Wolf, Kuehne + Nagel’s Senior Vice President for Global Project Logistics.

It is only a week or so since the group announced that Moët Hennessy, the premium drinks division of the LVMH Moet Hennessy – Louis Vuitton Group, and for whom K & N already manages logistics operations in Miami, had asked them to act as their exclusive logistics provider for their warehousing and distribution services in Spain.

The LVMH group has over sixty prestigious brands such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Zenith, Givenchy, Moet & Chandon, Dom Perignon and Veuve Clicquot under its corporate wing and K & N sources said they were delighted at acquiring a two year shipping contract from the French giant.
