WORLDWIDE – We start this week's round up of staff changes in the shipping and freight world with the sad news that Tom Leander, former Editor and Asia Editor-in-Chief at Lloyd's List, has died at the age of 61. Leander joined Lloyd's from the Economist Group in 2009, initially working in the London office before moving to Hong Kong to lead the Asia team.

WORLDWIDE – Nabil Sultan, Emirates' Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo has been appointed to The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) Board of Directors.

TAIWAN – Following the death of Chang Yung-fa, former Chairman of the Evergreen Group, the question of who will lead the corporation has led to an escalating and public battle between the sons of the late Chang Yung-fa, who had named in his will, his youngest son Chang Kuo-wei to succeed him. It now seems as though Kuo-wei has given up trying to take the top role of the Evergreen Group after his three older half-brothers from Yung-fa’s first marriage used their combined higher voting power to remove Kuo-wei from his positions as Eva Airways Chairman, member of board of Evergreen Marine, and Chairman of the Evergreen Group. Kuo-wei is now reportedly moving on to start his own business and is looking to sell his stake in the Group.

Last month, the Evergreen Group Board dismantled the top management division of the group which included the Chairman’s role that had been occupied by Kuo-wei at the time. Most of the Senior Executives from the board have now transitioned to Evergreen International, which will act as the company’s new management headquarters. Ko Lee-ching has been named as Chairman of Evergreen International with Yung-fa’s eldest son, Chang Kuo-hua and second son, Chang Kuo-ming taking supporting roles.

Bronson Hsieh and Chang Ming-po, both previously Vice Chairmen of the Evergreen Group, have taken the role of Advisor at Evergreen International with Lin Jung-hua, also previously Vice Chairman, resigning.

At Evergreen Marine, Kuo-wei’s place on the board has been taken by Hsieh Huey-chuan, and following his surprise ousting from Eva Air, Steve Lin was named Chairman. Lin was previously President of the airline in 2004 and was Chairman between 2005 and 2011.
