Freight and Logistics Staff Changes for the Week Begin with Major Departure

New Air Cargo Boss Will be in Post Sooner Than Anticipated

WORLDWIDE – This week's round up of staff changes in the world of freight and logistics starts with the news that Sebastiaan Scholte is to step down as Chairman of The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) following his departure as Chief Executive Officer of Jan de Rijk Logistics on July 1. Scholte has headed up the TIACA Board since 2017, taking over after two and a half years as Vice Chairman.

TIACA’s bylaws state that Board members must be Trustee Members of the Association, which means that Scholte can no longer serve after leaving Jan de Rijk. Vice Chairman Polmans will therefore take up the Chairmanship on July 1, a few months earlier than planned, at TIACA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Budapest, Hungary, in November.

Scholte is stepping down as CEO of Jan de Rijk as of July 1 to pursue new opportunities.

FINLAND – Containerships has announced the resignation of Chief Executive Officer, Kari-Pekka Laaksonen. Claude Lebel, current CEO of Mac Andrews and parent company of Containerships, has been put forward by Mac Andrew's parent company CMA CGM to succeed Laaksonen as the new CEO of Containerships.

BELGIUM – Euronav has announced that current Chief Financial Officer, Hugo De Stoop, will succeed Paddy Rodgers as CEO

UK – Parcel carrier Yodel has announced the promotion of Network Operations Director, Carl Moore, to the role of Chief Operating Officer, with a focus on driving service improvements and efficiency. Sam Holden has joined the carrier as Chief Commercial Officer, overseeing new business, account management and Yodel's international portfolio. She joins from Ideal Shipping Direct, where she held the role of COO.

US – GREECE – Shipowners Claims Bureau, Managers of the American Club, has announced several senior appointments to its global services team. At the American Club’s headquarters in New York, US, Margaret Lee has been appointed as Lead Counsel.

At the Managers’ office in Piraeus, Greece, Joanna Koukouli has been appointed as Deputy Global Claims Director, reporting to Global Claims Director Don Moore in New York. Koukouli has also been appointed as Joint Managing Director of the Piraeus office, in which role she will continue to work closely with Dorothea Ioannou, the Managers’ Chief Commercial Officer.

Marivi Banou has been appointed as P&I Claims Manager, assisting Joanna Koukouli in the general day-to-day supervision of the Piraeus-based claims team.

Elina Souli was recently recruited by the Managers’ Piraeus office to undertake the roles of FD&D Manager and Regional Business Development Director.

US – Norfolk Southern (NS) has announced three company officers to new executive positions, all effective April 1. John Scheib has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer. Scheib joined NS's law department in 2005 and moved his way up the department, eventually appointed Executive Vice President Law and Administration and Chief Legal officer in 2018.

In his new position, Scheib will oversee a new Service Optimisation and Customer Engagement Division that comprises strategic planning and newly created departments of Network Planning and Optimisation and Customer Operations.

Annie Adams has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer. Adams joined Norfolk Southern in 2001 as Manager Human Resources. Since then, she has served in a number of HR and planning roles and was named Vice President Human Resources in March 2016. In her new position, Adams will oversee a new Transformation Division that comprises the departments of Information Technology, Human Resources, Labour Relations, and Corporate Communications.

Vanessa Allen Sutherland has been named Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer. Sutherland joined Norfolk Southern in 2018 as Vice President Law. In her new position, Sutherland will oversee legal matters.

The three officers, as well as the company’s Government Relations Department, will report to CEO James Squires.

US – Forager Logistics has announced the appointment of Jesse Essman to the role of Chief Operating Officer. She will lead the HR, Recruiting, Marketing, Compliance and IT departments.

CANADA – Drone Delivery Canada has announced that Duncan Card to the company’s Advisory Board, effective March 27. Card is a Senior Partner at Canadian law firm, Bennett Jones.

US – DUBAI – Virgin Hyperloop has announced that Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, has been elected as the company’s new Chairman, with Jay Walder who has been appointed as its new CEO. Walder will also join the company’s Board of Directors.

Sultan bin Sulayem replaces Sir Richard Branson, who stepped down in October 2018, while Walder replaces Rob Lloyd, who served as CEO for more than three years.

SRI LANKA – Ravi Edirisinghe has been appointed Director and Chief Executive Officer of GAC Group of companies in Sri Lanka. He brings to his new role 27 years of knowledge and experience and is responsible for the strategic growth and business direction of the Group comprising GAC Shipping, GAC Marine Services and GAC Logistics. He replaces Mahesh Kurukulasuriya, who continues to be a member of the Group’s Board of Directors.

SOUTH KOREA – Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has appointed Jae-hoon Bae as its new President and CEO. He replaces Chang Keun Yoo, who after having held the role for two and a half years, announced his decision to step down from his position last month.
