Freight and Logistics Specialist Orders Fourteen More Container Handlers

GERMANY – Container terminal and logistics operator Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg GmbH has placed its fourth order with mechanical handling equipment supplier Konecranes which will bring the number straddle carriers on the freight specialist’s fleet from the same manufacturer’s stable to fifty five. The latest order booked in the second and fourth quarter of 2011 and scheduled for delivery later this year, comprises fourteen straddle carriers for container handling and includes the supply of maintenance services.

Jointly, with Contship Italia, Eurogate operates sea terminals in the Baltic and North Sea, in the Mediterranean region as well as in the Atlantic. The company has ten terminals and it handled 12.6 million TEU’s in 2010. Eurogate offers a full range of box-related services, from cargo modal and container services and repair plus intermodal transport.

The new straddle carriers ordered represent the latest technology on the market. The machines have a lifting capacity of 50 tons and can stack containers 1 over 2 high. They will be used for moving and stacking containers in the container yard. Jens Andreas, General Manager of Konecranes Straddle Carriers commented:
