UK – The Society of Engineers (SOE) has announced the death of its Chief Executive, Ian Chisholm IEng FSOE FIRTE, following a short illness. Chisholm joined in 2001 as an Engineering Executive after spending over 20 years at Waltham Forest College, predominantly as a Senior Lecturer. In 2016, Chisholm became Chief Executive, building SOE into the influential organisation it is today.

A committed and enthusiastic fundraiser, Chisholm built strong relationships with many charities, particularly those dealing with disaffected young people and, through his college employment, became devoted to education in engineering. In 1984, he wrote a book entitled, ‘Automobile Engine and Vehicle Technology’.

UK – Favoured charity of the freight industry Transaid has appointed Sam Clark as its new Head of Programmes. He replaces Caroline Barber who was promoted to Chief Executive in August. He joined Transaid in 2013 as Programme Support Manager. His most notable project for Transaid currently sees him playing a leading role in the Professional Driver Training – Uganda, one of the charity's largest externally funded road safety programmes.

UK – Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal has become Patron of Maritime UK, the promotional body for the nation's maritime sector. The influential endorsement of Her Royal Highness will help Maritime UK to engage its supporters, raise its profile and deepen relationships with friends and partners across the world.

UK – Palletline has announced the retirement of its Chairman, Trevor Ellis, after 11 years in the role. He will remain on the Palletline Board. Jim Welch of Welch's Transport has been named to succeed Ellis.

UK – RSK has announced three new members of its transport planning team, at its office in Manchester, UK. Senior Transport Planner, Sarah van de Berg joins the team from Wigan Council. She will be responsible for developing travel plans for large businesses across the North West of England. Senior Transport Engineer Graham Walker joins from Waterman Group, and Harriet Wingfield will be assisting the team with energy-related projects in the North West.

UAE – Aramex has announced that Bashar Obeid plans to step down from his role as Chief Financial Officer, in order to pursue other opportunities. Obeid will continue to serve until February 28, 2018, in order to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities. Nadia Abusarah, Executive Corporate Controller, has been named Interim CFO to replace Obeid.

SINGAPORE – Having established a new office in Singapore this month Genco Shipping & Trading has appointed Ivo Kempenaer as Vice President and Commercial Director, Head of Major Bulks.

US – Celadon Group has announced Thom Albrecht as Executive Vice President – Chief Financial and Strategy Officer, effective immediately. Additionally, Celadon has promoted Chase Welsh to Executive Vice President and General Counsel and will join the Board of Directors. John-Thomas Young has been hired to succeed Welsh as Vice President of Risk Management and Assistant General Counsel.

US – Hydroid, a subsidiary of Kongsberg Maritime has announced Dr Andrew Rogers has joined the company as Vice President of Engineering. In his new role, Rogers will lead all engineering and programme management activities at Hydroid including research & development, new product development, programme planning and execution, and product support. 

US – Following a strategic partnership with the Virgin Group, Virgin Hyperloop One has appointments of a new Co-Executive Chairman, Ziyavudin Magomedov, Chairman of the Summa Group; and Vice Chairman, Jim Rosenthal, the former COO of Morgan Stanley, to its Board of Directors.
