DENMARK – WORLDWIDE – With cargo and container vessels now largely emanating from the huge yards in the Far East, and a struggle to obtain orders often a two or three way fight between South Korea, China, Japan etc. many countries stubbornly cling to the last vestiges of their shipbuilding heritage, America with its protectionist Jones Act, Japanese shipping lines often plumping for home grown product, but now along comes the chance for a detailed but leisurely study of merchant ship evolution in Europe for the best part of a century.

A new ebook is available for free, documenting the development of Copenhagen based specialist Knud E Hansen, described by author Dr Bruce Peter as ‘arguably the most prominent and prolific consulting naval architects in the world’. The book, also available in hardback, traces the history of a company best known for its long-standing contributions to the development of modern car ferries and cruise ships, but also one which has developed vessels of almost every conceivable type.

The book, ’75 Years of Ship Design’ is available to download HERE completely free of charge and is profusely illustrated with numerous previously unpublished photographs and drawings, and is intended to give the general reader a broad overview of the development of modern merchant ship design practices.
