Formula 1 man Joins the Race to Maritime Wind Technologies

UK – BAR Technologies (BAR), the marine engineering consultancy, has announced that Simon Roberts, former Williams Racing Managing Director and Team Principal, has joined the business as Chief Operating Officer. After 17 years at McLaren as Operations Director and COO, Simon moved most recently to Williams F1.

Roberts is tasked with using his experience in the management of large capital engineering programmes to take BAR’s pioneering WindWings wing sail technology through its manufacturing partnerships to the global shipping market, as well as getting involved in other sectors including commercial workboat operations, leisure marine and special projects.

UK – Logistics UK has appointed a former Senior Researcher at the Scottish Parliament, Alexandra Herdman, as a Public Policy Manager to work within its own policy team. Ms Herdman spent the previous five years working in the Parliament and also has a BA (Hons) in British Politics and Legislative Studies, as well as an MSc in Global Challenges. Her studies included decarbonisation, now a key focus for industry.

UK – International supply chain and logistics consultants SCALA has appointed Holly Hadfield as its new Senior Logistics Consultant. Holly will also head up the company’s supply strategy modelling in what is a brand new role created to strengthen SCALA’s core team and support the volume of supply chain strategy projects the business is being asked to undertake. Before moving into consulting, Holly worked in the logistics sector for Culina Group and Tibbett & Britten (now part of DHL)

UK - PR consultancy Meantime Communications, which specialises in the global logistics, tech, and fintech industries, has appointed Felicity Stredder and Shreya Hiwale to the team. Felicity joins as Account Manager and brings over six years’ experience in air cargo publishing, most recently as Deputy Editor of Air Logistics International and Ground Handling International. Shreya has recently completed an MSc. in Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science and joins as Account Executive.

UK – IAG Cargo has made two managerial changes bringing in Pat Dobie, previously Chief Transformation Officer as Chief Customer and Infrastructure Officer whilst George Efkolodis joins the business as Head of Customer Experience, with over 20 years’ working in the aviation industry.

Pat Dobie joined IAG in 2017 with over 30 years in the business, and George Efkolodis, has held senior roles at Munich Airport International, Heathrow and IATA. Pat and George will be supported by an expanding global customer services team.

NETHERLANDS – Dorine Bosman (58) will join the Board of Directors of Port of Amsterdam as Chief Investment Officer (CIO) with effect from 1 October 2021. Following this appointment Port of Amsterdam will have a Board of Directors consisting of three members. Dorine has a background in renewable energy and worked for Shell for many years in the United States and Australia, among other places. For the past five years she has headed the Offshore Wind group within Shell's New Energies division.

The Board is being strengthened to ensure the successful implementation of Port of Amsterdam's strategic ambitions. The CIO will play an important role in boosting Amsterdam as a sustainable European seaport and in stimulating and accelerating the energy transition and the circular activities within the port and in the North Sea Canal Area. Within Port of Amsterdam, Bosman will be responsible for infrastructure, space and environment among other things.

WORLDWIDE – Logistics payment outfit PayCargo has appointed Christian Dornhaus as Managing Director for Europe, the Middle East, India, and Asia (EMEIA) as the cargo payment platform continues its rapid global growth. Dornhaus will be based in Madrid, Spain, from where he will lead a team dedicated to delivering PayCargo solutions across EMEIA.

He brings over two decades of experience in the logistics and freight industries, most recently as Vice President of Sales Europe at UPS company Coyote, as well as having held previous senior roles at FedEx, Panalpina, Bolloré, and Dachser.

US – Having announced his resignation from Miami based air cargo carrier Amerijet International after less than a year in post, Tim Strauss, who was CEO has decided to remain with the company. Executive Chairman Vic Karjian, former CEO and latterly Executive Chairman who was to shoulder both roles, will continue in his current position.
