US – Alabama headquartered Boyd Bros. Transportation has announced the acquisition of Mid Seven Transportation in Des Moines, Iowa. Both road haulage outfits have similar commercial profiles being flatbed hauling primarily steel products and building materials and the purchase means Boyd has extended its reach further west from its established network which stretches north from Mississippi, Texas, Georgia and North Carolina up to Ohio.

Both outfits are long established with Boyd’s, one of the Truckload Carriers Association’s 2012 Best Fleets to Drive For, trading since 1956 whilst Mid Seven commenced operations nine years earlier. Both companies rely on independent owner operators with Mid Seven focusing primarily on the Midwest with extended lanes in the South, Northeast and Southwest. Jeff Simpson of Mid Seven, commented:

“It is exciting for me to see Mid Seven Transportation Company become a member of the Boyd Bros. family of carriers. Both companies have long histories of operating with integrity, commitment to customer service and placing a high value on their employees and independent contractors.”

The deal was leveraged by Transport Capital Partners, LLC which specialises in advisory services related to transportation mergers and acquisitions and Richard Bailey, president of Boyd Bros concluded:

“We are proud to add Mid Seven Transportation to the Boyd family of companies. We plan to operate Mid Seven autonomously as a separate subsidiary. Mid Seven has some of the best owner operators and employees in the industry and we are especially proud of their safety and service culture.”
