EUROPE – US – WORLDWIDE - Freight and logistics provider Kuehne + Nagel has announced two successful contract negotiations this week having been selected to coordinate and manage the shipment of 26 Maserati GranTurismo racing cars from Europe to the overseas destinations of the Maserati Trofeo World Series championship in California and Shanghai and being appointed by FlexLink, manufacturers of flexible, modular conveyors and industrial automation equipment, to supply all the group’s multi modal shipping requirements for consignments emanating from Poland to international destinations.

2012 sees Italian luxury car manufacturer Maserati organising the third edition of its international mono-brand racing championship, the Maserati Trofeo MC World Series, featuring events in Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, the US and China. Being part of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), the overseas races take place in Sonoma/California (near San Francisco) and on the Formula 1 circuit in Shanghai. As official logistics partner, Kuehne + Nagel was awarded the ocean transport of the 26 racing cars including accessories and spare parts, from the Italian port of La Spezia to Oakland/California and onwards to Shanghai and, after the season’s closing race in November, back to La Spezia.

The Maserati Trofeo MC World Series, launched in 2010, is an international mono-brand racing championship, dedicated to all drivers aiming to race in the GT class with a prestigious brand. In light of the success of the first two seasons, 2012 is seeing the third edition of the Maserati Trofeo, with events on some of the most famous intercontinental circuits. Competition is furious throughout the season-long championship, confirming the competitive spirit and magnetism of a competition able to attract ‘gentleman drivers from all over the world.’

The agreement with FlexLink incorporates road haulage and sea freight elements and other intermodal options and also includes customs clearances thus covering all logistics needs of FlexLink and its customers from door-to-door. Tobias Jerschke, National Manager of Kuehne + Nagel in Poland said:

“We will be acting as a fully integrated logistics partner for FlexLink, covering all transport operations from their global hub based in Poznan. FlexLink expects not only high-quality service, but also added value from Kuehne + Nagel’s experience and know-how.”

Working with a single international logistics provider FlexLink hopes will result in supply chain optimisation. Svante Anderholm, Chief Operations Officer of FlexLink said that the company choose Kuehne + Nagel because FlexLink serves customers in more than 60 countries through sales units in 23 countries and an extended global partner network. He added that a smooth and reliable supply chain is of utmost importance and that with Kuehne + Nagel, the business felt it has found the ideal globally recognised logistics partner.
