Family Freight and Logistics Firm Scoops Two European Awards

AUSTRIA - Global freight and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss now belongs to the top five family businesses in Europe, according to business magazine CampdenFB which has awarded the “European Families in Business Awards” in cooperation with leading bank Société Générale for the first time this year. The award ceremony took place within the course of the 9th European Families in Business Conference in Amsterdam and the judges also selected the freight company’s CEO Wolfgang Niessner as the joint Top Non-Family Director of the year.

During the seven years he has been with the company, Wolfgang Niessner oversaw the international expansion of Gebrüder Weiss, building operations across Europe and Asia which has led to the company revenues being almost doubled between 2001 and 2011 and hitting the €1 billion mark for the first time in its history last year.

In winning the individual award the jury looked for “an exceptional director, who proves exemplary entrepreneurial as well as managerial abilities and adheres to principles and culture, which are highly relevant for the success of the company” and awarded the title jointly to Herr Niessner and Hartmut Jenner, boss of cleaning machine manufacturer Kärcher.

At the award ceremony, Elisabeth Krainer Senger-Weiss, Gebrüder Weiss partner accepted the prize on behalf of Wolfgang Niessner saying on his behalf:

“I accept this award for our entire company, as the support of partners as well as the ‘orange team’ was vital for the positive development. I also see recognition for the whole logistics industry in the award.”

David Bain, Editorial Director of Campden Wealth presented at the ceremony saying:

“The winners of the inaugural ‘European Families in Business Awards’ are at the vanguard of businesses in Europe, adhering to the best practices in family business governance and stewardship.
