UK – Dachser, one of the big hitters amongst European logistics and freight forwarding groups with a turnover exceeding €4 billion per annum, saw its British operation take possession of a new, purpose built facility at Brackmills, Northampton last week. The move brings the base-build phase of the development to completion after the keys were handed over by Roxhill Investments, the developer of the site.

As our photograph shows, ownership of the freehold entitled the company to see the new facility located at an address named after the German founder of the group, Thomas Dachser, and this latest move adds to the company’s existing branches in Dartford and Rochdale, whilst the Reading sales office which opened in January 2013, serves the M4 corridor region with more branches in other areas of the UK planned for the future. Currently daily line-hauls are operated from all three locations to feed into the Dachser pan-European network.

Dachser purchased the 16.38 acre Northampton site last year, and proceeded with a turnkey project to develop a freehold facility comprising a 64,000 square foot cross-dock as well as a 114,000 square foot contract logistics warehouse plus 21,000 square feet of office accommodation over two storeys. Work on the remaining fit-out items will now continue, and commencement of operations is scheduled to begin during the last week in March. John Goodman, Dachser UK’s General Manager, Midlands and North, and responsible for the operations at the Northampton branch office, commented:

“We have seen significant increases in our European export and import volumes over the past few years, and our new facility is generating great interest from customers and our European network colleagues alike. We are especially looking forward to showcasing our new contract logistics warehouse which will accommodate 20,000 pallet spaces, within which we will be offering flexible solutions to customers for all their outsource supply chain needs.”

Nick Lowe, Dachser’s UK Managing Director, was keen to emphasise that business was increasing with both Dartford and Rochdale seeing a steady growth in business volumes as the Company claims to be increasing its market share. He observed:

“We are very pleased that we will soon be moving into a brand new facility which will give us scope to continue to expand our business. It represents a multi-million pound investment and endorses our commitment to Northampton as a prime location for a major European logistics hub centre.”
