CANADA – GERMANY – Holzwickede based freight forwarding and logistics outfit Rhenus has extended its influence in North America with the acquisition of another major player, Toronto headquartered Rodair. Just this month the group, which covers all aspects of the trade with specialist service in niche areas, such as fashion and retail, and the automotive supply chain, was selected as one of Canada's Best Managed Companies turning over $15 million annually. Jeff Cullen, CEO of Rodair, said:

“Being integrated into the Rhenus Group enables us to become part of an entrepreneurial global enterprise with depth expertise and passion which offers us the best prospects for long-term and sustainable development. This investment in growth, people and technology also offers a wider range of individual opportunities to our employees and will also be for the benefit of our present and future customers.”

The acquisition is subject to approval by the relevant authorities and will see the company, founded in 1996 and with business sites in Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver, see all its activities including project logistics, courier, warehousing and distribution, 3PL services, and e-commerce solutions, integrated into the Rhenus fold. No mention was made at this stage of rebranding.

Rodair’s activities include dedicated in-house customs clearance teams in Toronto and Vancouver with traffic drawn from the pharmaceutical and mining industry sectors, as well as those mentioned previously. Jörn Schmersahl, CEO Air & Ocean Americas at Rhenus, commented:

“The acquisition of Rodair Group marks an important step for Rhenus in establishing a network in Canada. Rodair’s entrepreneurial and family oriented history and conviction to the same values will make an important contribution to the ongoing growth of the Rhenus Group. Combined with a strong focus on customer relations, we are gaining experienced employees with local expertise for the global operations of the Air & Ocean business unit at Rhenus Freight Logistics.”
