AUSTRALIA – CHINA – UK –  DP World, the global port and infrastructure operator, is celebrating two developments today. In Australia the company has signed a new agreement with Cosco Shipping Lines to be their stevedore of choice on their major services into Australia. Cosco is the fastest growing container liner company in Asia and has major services calling at DP World Australia terminals in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. DP World Australia Chief Commercial Officer, Brian Gillespie, said:

“We are incredibly pleased to be chosen as the stevedore and logistics partner of choice by Cosco Shipping lines as they continue to successfully grow their volumes between Asia, Australia and the rest of the world.”

Mr Yong Pan, Managing Director of Cosco Shipping Oceania said:

“Last year, we selected DP World Australia as our major stevedore service for our Australian flagship A3 services. This agreement confirms our selection of DP World Australia as our stevedoring and logistics partner in Australia. My congratulations to all at DP World Australia for their efforts and commitment to Cosco shipping.”

In the UK, DP World’s Global Education Programme has won Gold for Best Evaluation at the UK’s Corporate Engagement Awards, recognising the port operator’s initiative. Launched in 2016, the Programme involves employees delivering lessons in local schools across its network around the world to boost the skills, aspirations and confidence of young people by teaching them about trade, logistics and the maritime sector and related career opportunities.

The programme aims to reach 34,000 young people by 2020 and more than 250 employees have been involved to date, engaging over 5,500 students, across 14 countries. DP World Group Chairman & CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, said:

“Our Global Education Programme is having genuine impact around the world and I am delighted to have our efforts recognised by this prestigious award. As a leader in global trade and logistics, we want our people and our resources to support education, and to raise awareness of trade and its crucial role in everyone’s lives. Our extensive measurement and evaluation of the programme helps ensure that it is constantly meeting the needs of students, teachers and employees, and ensures that we can create lasting change, adding value in the communities where we operate.”

The initiative has been hugely popular with schools, with 96% of teachers saying it provided pupils with something new their school could not, and 94% saying they would recommend DP World as an employer. In this way the programme also helps create a talent pipeline of future employees, increases job prospects for local communities, and provides a rewarding way for employees to use their volunteering leave while developing skills.
