DUBAI / UAE – Following on from this morning’s report on the growth of Hong Kong International’s year-on-year air freight tonnages comes news that Dubai International has experienced a 17.7 percent increase in cargo turnover during October against the same month last year, with 185,867 tonnes handled as compared to 157,968 tonnes.

Though the airport has experienced low-level cargo growth over the first nine months of the year October’s figures are especially encouraging. Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said that: “Our performance as one of the world’s fastest growing airports is proof that it pays to invest in infrastructure and build capacity to support and stimulate economic activity. It is also evidence of the effectiveness of Dubai’s integrated approach to air transport, trade and tourism.”

With Midex Airline announcing their intention to invest half a billion dollars in air freight infrastructure in the region and to expand their global network, the outlook for the air freight industry for the Middle East looks increasingly rosy.
