Deep Water Ports and Container Line Staff Moves Lead Freight and Logistics Changes

UK – DUBAI – Major changes at the top of DP World’s UK container ports leads this week's round-up of staff movements in the freight and logistics sector. DP World London Gateway’s Chief Executive Officer Simon Moore, is going to relocate to the company’s corporate headquarters in Dubai to take on a new role as Senior Vice President of Commercial and Strategy, effective April 1. Moore has led the London Gateway since 2006, through the development phases to its stage as the UK's newest deep water port. General Manager at the London Gateway Port, Cameron Thorpe is to succeed Moore as CEO.

Following the group's acquisition of the remaining stake in DP World Southampton, a new UK management structure has been introduced to utilise both UK ports. As of April 1, Managing Director of DP World Southampton, Chris Lewis, will be appointed DP World's Managing Director for the UK, reporting into the Group's European Head Office in London. Nick Loader, current Finance Director, will succeed Lewis as CEO of DP World Southampton.

DUBAI – GAC has announced the appointment of Madhu Vallur as its new Group Vendor Manager to its dedicated Oil and Gas team, based at the corporate headquarters in Jebel Ali, Dubai.

JAPAN – Mitsui OSK Lines has announced several changes to its Directors and Executive Officers. Effective April 1, current Managing Executive Officer Takeshi Hashimoto will become Senior Managing Executive Officer. Current Executive Officers Toshiyuki Sonobe, Yoshikazu Kawagoe, and Koichi Yashima, have all been promoted to the roles of Managing Executive Officer

Director of MOL LNG Transport - Masanori Kobayashi, General Manager of Liner Division - Yutaka Hinooka, General Manager of Tanker Division - Masato Koike, and General Manager of Marine Safety Division - Masanori Kato all will become Executive Officers effective April 1.

Effective the same date, Hirokazu Hatta, current Managing Executive Officer, will become an Adviser to MOL Techno-Trade, and Tetsuro Nishio, also currently Managing Executive Officer, will become Adviser to Nihon Tug-Boat. Both Hirokazu and Tetsuro will be appointed as Executive Vice Presidents in June. Managing Executive Officer Takaaki Inoue will take up the role of Adviser to MOL LNG Transport, and Toshikazu Inaoka, currently Executive Officer, will become an Adviser to MOL Ship Management. Both Takaaki and Toshikazu will be appointed as Presidents in June.

Outside Director Takeshi Komura will retire from the role effective June 21, when Hideto Fujii, currently an Adviser or Sumitomo Corporation, and Etsuko Katsu, currently Vice President, Professor, school of political science and economics, Meiji University, will become Outside Directors at MOL.

SINGAPORE – BELGIUM – US – UPS has announced the appointments of Nando Cesarone, as President of UPS Europe, with Ross McCollough taking over from Cesarone as President of UPS Asia Pacific. Cesarone succeeds Cindy Miller, who will be returning to the US as President of UPS Global Freight Forwarding.

SWEDEN – The Election Committee of AB Volvo has proposed that Helena Stjernholm, Håkan Samuelsson and Martin Lundstedt, President and CEO of Volvo, be elected as new Board members at the Annual General Meeting on April 6, 2016. The Election Committee has also resolved to propose the re-election of Chairman of the Board Carl-Henric Svanberg, as well as Board members Matti Alahuhta, Eckhard Cordes, James Griffith, Kathryn Marinello, Martina Merz, Hanne de Mora and Lars Westerberg. Anders Nyrén has announced that he will not be standing for re-election.

NORWAY – Tor E. Svensen, Group Executive Vice President at DNV GL, has decided to retire from his position, effective August 1. He will continue to work in the maritime industry and will, amongst other things, take up a role as professor at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, focusing on education and research related to safety at sea. Svensen’s career at DNV GL spanned more than twenty years and saw him lead the Maritime Business for more than a decade.

US – Bluff Manufacturing has announced Jay Bodnar as its new Northeast Regional Sales Manager.

US – The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) has announced that John DeCrosta will serve as the FMC’s Senior Advisor for Legislative & Public Affairs, reporting directly to the Chairman.

WORLDWIDE – The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has appointed three new members to its Management Board. Bob Sanguinetti, CEO and Captain of the Port of Gibraltar, Henrik Zederkof, CEO Dan-Bunkering and Mustafa Muhtaroglu, CEO Energy Petrol will all join the IBIA Board on April 1.

Also appointed was one new member to the IBIA in Africa Board who is Patrick Holloway, Partner with Webber Wentzel Attorneys, who is an IBIA main board member and steers the IBIA in Africa, Executive Committee.
