ITALY – DB Schenker tell us they have expanded their “Land Transport Gateway” hub in Peschiera Borromeo having moved ‘just down the road’. The road freight terminal is situated on the same street as the old compound next to the Air and Ocean Freight receiving facilities and the corporate shipping office.
The new Land Transport hub boasts 11,000 square meters of warehouse space equipped with the latest safety systems and state-of-the-art technology such as hydraulic ramps on all 53 loading docks. The hub also includes 1,500 square meters of office space. The gateway is to run more than 22,000 shipments a month including daily and weekly connections to and from major industrial centers across Europe as well as daily shuttles to branch offices in Italy.
The new Land Transport terminal has been designed to improve the usage of space dedicated to the Air and Ocean hubs. The Ocean Freight hub and Global Projects will be relocated to the former Land Transport facility with its 4,700-sqm warehouse and its 48 loading bays. The Air Freight import gateway will move to the former Ocean Freight building taking over 3,500 square meters of warehouse space and 28 loading bays. The Corporate Office, the export Air Freight gateway and the Fairs & Exhibitions department will remain in the present building, taking advantage of the 5,500 square meters warehouse space previously shared with the import Air Freight department.
"As of now, we offer our customers a real DB Schenker Village in Peschiera," emphasizes Lorenzo Papa, CEO of Schenker Italiana S.p.A. "The complex covers a total area of more than 73,000 square meters including three intra-communicating facilities that help to streamline the handling of goods for Air and Ocean Freight and the nearby Logistics premises. Our customers stand to benefit from even higher service and process quality."
