UK – ITALY – DFDS, the Danish headquartered group, perhaps better known for its ferry services, has increased the frequency of its multimodal transport between the UK and Italy to a daily freight service. The company now offers a range of alternatives for both partial and full loads, the cargo stowed into containers, trailers or onto swap bodies.

In the UK, the units are transported by road to Immingham or Felixstowe, and by sea to Rotterdam or Zeebrugge. Upon arrival, the cargo is loaded onto rail for transportation to the Novara or Piazenca rail terminals near Milan in Italy. The rail and sea transport network includes daily departures in both directions. Thierry Versluis, route manager at Logistics Immingham and manager responsible for the UK–Italy service, commented:

“The daily departures to and from Italy enable us to offer customers a more flexible and reliable service. We have seen an increased demand for environment-friendly solutions that offer daily departures with short lead times. We are therefore very pleased with this new set-up, which will meet those demands."
