USA - Con-way Freight, the less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier and subsidiary of logistics giant Con-way Inc., have announced that they have made a number of new appointments to their regional sales teams with senior staff coming from troubled rival YRC Worldwide in a move that brings the company decades of experience in freight and logistics to Con-way.

Darren Hawkins will now serve as Nashville region sales manager whilst Harold Reeves will head Con-way Freight's restructured Memphis territory. Between the two of them they hold almost fifty years of service with YRC Worldwide.

Con-way Freight has also recruited Marty Diamond to the position of Harrisburg region sales manager in Pennsylvania and Marshall Durham, who will be responsible for the new South Bend, Indiana sales team.

Mr. Diamond has 20 years in the transportation industry with Roadway Services and, most recently, with Estes Express Lines whilst Mr. Durham served as vice president of national accounts for R+L Carriers. He previously spent 18 years with USF Holland in a variety of sales management positions.

In addition, Con-way's has promoted Kristin Wrench, who has been at the company since 2005, to the Kansas City region sales manager following her role as service/sales manager at Con-way Freight's Seaford.

Speaking of the appointments Ed Conaway, executive vice president of sales at Con-way Freight, said: “The caliber of the talented industry professionals joining the sales organization this year is second to none, and we're confident they'll be able to leverage the experience they've gained at some of the LTL industry's most prominent companies to significantly grow these pivotal markets.”

The appointments are an indication that Con-way’s moon seems to be waxing whilst YRC’s wanes. Given the parlous state of YRC’s finances at the end of last year one is bound to consider how much business will transfer to the new employer’s of such senior sales staff.
