SWITZERLAND – UAE – Having already somewhat expanded its interests in European trade by forming a container shipping alliance with French group CMA CGM in the Ocean Three tie up (along with China Shipping), and subsequently with German carrier Hamburg Süd, Middle Eastern headquartered United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has entered landlocked territory by opening its own representative agency in Switzerland as from New Year’s Day 2015.

UASAC Switzerland GmbH will be a subsidiary of UASAC Deutschland GmbH and will take over all agency activities from Fiege Logistics Ltd, which successfully represented UASC in the Swiss market for 24 years. The Arabian carrier states that this is another stage in its expansion plans and one which highlights the importance of the Swiss market for the company. In tandem with the previously mentioned alliances it feels it has an opportunity to unlock access to several new markets for European customers in general, and for Swiss customers specifically, whilst enhancing the UASC profile throughout Europe. Detlev Kerber, Vice President of the UASC Europe Cluster commented:

“The Swiss market is growing rapidly and this represents a great opportunity for UASC to further strengthen our presence and improve customer accessibility and services. UASC’s mission is to provide highly competitive products that enable customers to reach markets across the globe and stay ahead of their competitors. To achieve this, we place customer service at the very heart of our operations. We believe that establishing a wholly-owned UASC presence in the Swiss market will enable us to directly understand our customer requirements and build enduring relationships that deliver tangible business results.

“Fiege Logistics successfully represented UASC in Switzerland for the past 24 years, and they played a vital role in achieving a strong presence in the Swiss market and realising our growth and expansion strategies in Switzerland to date. We would like to thank them for their commitment and support throughout the years and we look forward to continue working with them as an important customer in the Swiss market.”

Additional details on the new team members including contact information will be available on the UASC website shortly. All of the Company’s Swiss customers will also receive a dedicated communication to explain the changes in a move which Fiege Logistics had probably anticipated was coming. Fiege’s Markus Warnebold said of the move:

“We have worked closely with UASC over the past years and have witnessed the significant growth and expansion activities that have positioned the Company as a leading global carrier. As an experienced logistical company, we helped to build and develop UASC’s presence in the Swiss market through high quality interactions with the Company’s customers. We wish UASC all the best with their future plans in the Swiss market, and we will provide the necessary support to ensure a seamless and smooth transition for our customers.”
