Christmas Comes as Freight, Shipping and Logistics Staff Appointments Announced

US – In what will most probably be our last round up of staff changes and appointments for the year in the world of freight, shipping and logistics, we start with the news that Harvey Brodsky, Managing Director of the Retread Tire Association (RTA), has decided to hand over the full time day-to-day role of Managing Director to Jeffrey Parks, previously Brodsky's Assistant, after a serious accident followed by a failed back surgery that left Brodsky disabled from walking well and in intractable pain.

After 40 years of serving as a voice and Representative of the retread tire industry, Brodsky handed over his responsibilities at the start of the month but has no plans to leave the industry or the RTA.

US – Neovia Logistics has announced Kit Boyd as its new Chief Operations Officer, effective January 16, 2017. He will oversee the daily operations of the company and report directly to CEO Pat Olney.

US – The American Trucking Association has named elven Executives to its Infrastructure Funding Task Force, meeting for the first time on December 19. The members of the Task Force are:

  • Jim Burg, president and CEO, James Burg Trucking Co. (co-chair)
  • David Congdon, CEO, Old Dominion Freight Line (co-chair)
  • Mike Ducker, president and CEO, FedEx Freight
  • Eric Fuller, COO, U.S. Xpress Inc.
  • Neal Kedzie, president, Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association
  • Rich McArdle, president, UPS Freight
  • Dennis Nash, CEO, Kenan Advantage Group
  • Tonn Ostergard, president and CEO, Crete Carrier Corp.

  • ATA Chairman Kevin Burch, president, Jet Express Inc.

US – The Board of Directors of Titan International has promoted Paul Reitz to CEO and President, effective January 1, 2017. He takes over from Maurice Taylor, who will continue to serve as Chairman of Titan’s Board of Directors.

US – The Bay Planning Coalition has named Richard Sinkoff as its new President for a two-year term. Sinkoff is the Director of Environmental Programs and Planning at the Port of Oakland. The Coalition supports policies that link Bay Area economic growth to maritime activity, goods movement and environmental protection.

US – The Los Angeles Transportation Club (LATC), a non-profit organisation, has named Scott Weiss to the role of President. Weiss is Vice President of Business Development at Port Logistics Group.

US – Hertz Global has announced Kathryn Marinello as its new President and CEO, succeeding John Tague who will retire on January 2, 2017. Hertz also announced that its three longest serving directors, Non-Executive Chair Linda Fayne Levinson, Compensation Committee Chair Carl Berquist, and Financing Committee Chair Michael Durham have chosen to leave the Boards of Directors of the Companies on the same day. Following their departure, the Boards will have seven directors, six of whom are independent under the New York Stock Exchange listing rules.

CANADA – Canadian Pacific Railway has announced Jane Peverett to its Board of Directors, effective since December 13. Peverett is a member of the Board of Directors of Hydro One, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), Northwest Natural Gas Company, and Encana Corp.

CANADA – Deploy Technologies has announced Susan Naylen Sorrell has resigned as Director and Chief Financial Officer. Dong Shim has been named to replace Naylen Sorrell, effective immediately.

AUSTRALIA – The Australian Trucking Association has appointed former CEO of the Stockman's Hall of Fame, Ben Maguire, as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective early 2017.

AUSTRALIA – NEW ZEALAND – Ceva Logistics has announced the appointment of Carlos Velez Rodriguez as Managing Director for its Australia and New Zealand Cluster, effective immediately. Based in Melbourne, he will report to the company’s CEO, Xavier Urbain.

ETHIOPIA – Yacob Yalla has been named the new CEO of the state-owned Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Service Enterprise, following the departure of Ahmed Tusa.

UAE – DP World has appointed Sara Falaknaz as Chief Innovation Officer with immediate effect. Falaknaz is was previously the Vice President of Innovation for DP World and her new duties will expand on that role in other directions.

MALAYSIA – Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE) has announced Wan Mashitah Binti Wan Abdullah Sani has officially been named as its Managing Director and CEO, effective January 1, 2017, having been in an interim position since May. Prior to that, she was Chief Financial Officer.

Hazrin bin Haji Hatim has been named as interim CFO, effective January, 1, 2017, until a formal successor has been found.

SINGAPORE – GERMANY – Henry Woo is to head up the Asia-Pacific division at Hansa Heavy Lift, taking over from Joerg Roehl. Woo will be based at the shipping line's Asia headquarters in Singapore. Roehl has decided to move back to Europe and will remain in close contact with the organisation where he will continue in an advisory capacity.

GERMANY – From January 1, 2017, the Management Board of Schenker AG is being reorganised. Schenker will reduce the number of board members from seven to six and will reorganise board divisions. Air and Ocean Freight and Land Transport Board Divisions will be consolidated to create a new division named Freight which will be led by Ewald Kaiser, currently Member of the Board for Land Transport.

A new organisational unit named Global Land Transport will also be created within this board division, and a new division called Commercial DB Schenker and Contract Logistics, headed by Tom Schmitt, will be created. For the first time, Key Account Management/Sales and Marketing will be hardwired at the Management Board level.

On 1 December 2016, Reiner Heiken assumed the role of CEO of Region Europe, replacing the aforementioned Kaiser in this function. Heiken served most recently as Chairman of the Management Board at Kühne & Nagel in Hamburg.

GERMANY – Frank Appel, Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Post DHL, has been reappointed to the Corporate Board of Management for another five years until October 2022. Appel has been a member of the Management Board of Deutsche Post DHL Group since 2002 and CEO since 2008

DENMARK – DSV has appointed two new Chief Commercial Officers. Michael Hansen will take on the responsibility for the Air and Sea Division, while Wilbert Tholhuijsen will look after the Road Division.

NETHERLANDS – Broekman Logistics has appointed Willwm Jan van Amersfoot as Managing Director Warehousing and Distribution, taking over from Jacques Kleinkramer.

FINLAND – Konecranes has made several changes to its reporting segments and new members of the Group Executive Board (GXB) subject of the closing of the pending acquisition of Terex Corporation's MHPS business. As of January 1, 2017, Konecrances will report three business areas: Service, Industrial Equipment, and Port Solutions. Currently, the reporting segments are Service and Equipment.

Fabio Fiorino will continue in his current position as Executive Vice President, Business Area Service and as a member of the GXB. Mikko Uhari will continue as a member of the GXB as Executive Vice President, Business Area Industrial Equipment. Mika Mahlberg has been appointed as Executive Vice President, Business Area Port Solutions, and as a member of the Konecranes GX.

Konecranes Strategy and Technology function will be split into two parts. Juha Pankakoski will assume responsibility for the group’s Technology function in addition to his duties as the Chief Digital Officer and he will continue as a member of the GXB as Executive Vice President, Technologies. As of the closing of the MHPS Acquisition, Susanna Schneeberger is appointed as Executive Vice President, Strategy.

SWEDEN – Effective January 1, 2017, Tim Jørnsen will become Head of eCommerce and Logistics at PostNord, and become a member of the Group Executive Team. Jørnsen has been in an interim capacity since July. He was previously Head of Production Management for the business area.

ITALY – Venezia Terminal Passeggeri (VTP) has appointed Galliano Di Marco as its new Director General.

FRANCE – Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has appointed David Clark as its Global Head of Safety and Security, effective February 27, 2017. Ending a 17-year with British Airways, Clark will be based in Paris and report to Chief Executive Craig Smyth

UK – Thomas Hemmerich has been named to succeed Simon Elliot as Managing Director of MAN Truck and Bus UK, from February 1, 2017. Hemmerich is currently in the same role at MAN's Austrian business.

UK – Menzies Distribution has announced the appointment of Greg Michael as its new Managing Director, effective January 1, 2017.

PORTUGAL – WORLDWIDE – Joana Nunes Coelho has been nominated by the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association (FIATA) to become the Governance Manager of the IATA FIATA Air Cargo Programme (IFACP). She is the current President Executive of the Freight Forwarders Association of Portugal (APAT).

UK – The Mission to Seafarers Head of Marketing and Communications, Laura Hayes has resigned her position this week to take up a new post in 2017. Laura worked for the Mission for four years and until a new appointment is confirmed either Patrick Silla or Jos Standerwick will cover for her in the Press Office.
