CHINA – According to internal reports for the first half of this year Chinese carriage by air has seen an overall jump of 32% which includes an 18% increase in passenger carriage. A statement by Li Jiaxiang, director-general of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) claimed that more attention would be given to air travel and transport in future in the Western Chinese region.
Overall the volume of air freight cargo in the country reached 2.6 million tonnes which represents a growth of 39% over the same period last year. The figures are supported by the recently released figures from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) who registered a 13.2% increase for May traffic alone and said that the growth of the industry in China was the main force driving the increase.
