Chilean Stevedore Port Strike Ends Freight Operations Resumed

Settlement Reached in Acrimonious Disputes

CHILE – The stevedore strike which we reported in detail last month is reported to have ended. Unconfirmed reports from the country state that the dispute which commenced on the 24th September in San Antonio Port has reached a conclusion after extended negotiations. Freight operations are reported as returning to normal.

The strike which affected San Vicente, Coronel and the Port of Lirquen which began, as we predicted, at the beginning of this month has also ended and the stevedores have returned to work according to local sources.

Meanwhile hundeds of supermarket workers are reported as walking out earlier today in Santiago in a dispute over pay at supermarket giant Jumbo.
