GERMANY – CHILE – With CSAV and Hapag Lloyd officially merging their container shipping businesses, Michael Behrendt, who spearheaded the deal with the Chilean ocean freight company, has been named as the new Chairman of Hapag Lloyd’s Supervisory Board, replacing Dr Jürgen Weber, who has stepped down from his position as previously agreed. The former CEO of Hapag-Lloyd, Behrendt, will take over the role with effect immediately.

Supervisory Board members Dr Andreas Rittstieg and Ulrich Leitermann also stepped down as agreed with the closing of the CSAV transaction. The AGM elected Oscar Hasbún Martínez and Francisco Pérez Mackenna to replace them on the Supervisory Board of Hapag-Lloyd.

SWITZERLAND – Panalpina’s board of directors has proposed Thomas Kern for election as a new Member of the Board at the upcoming Annual General Meeting, to be held on May 12, 2015. Kern, a Swiss national, will be nominated to the board as the successor to Hans-Peter Strodel, who will not stand for re-election due to the statutory age limit.

FINLAND – Antti Kuusenmäki was selected to head Finnair Cargo, reporting to Juha Järvinen, Finnair Senior Vice President of the Commercial division and Managing Director of Finnair Cargo. Kuusenmäki took up his new role on December 1.

SWEDEN – Henry Sténson has been appointed Head of the newly established Volvo Group function, Corporate Communication & Sustainability Affairs, effective January 1, 2015, when he will also join the Volvo Group’s Executive team.

UK – Renault Trucks has strengthened its sales team in Scotland with the appointments of new two new Transport Solutions Executives (TSE). Angus McIntosh will be responsible for driving sales in the east of Scotland, and Calum Aitken, a former Renault Trucks Apprentice of the Year, will be responsible for the west of Scotland. Both will report to Richard Voigt, Regional Sales Manager for Scotland and Ireland.

UK – Kerry Logistics has announced the appointment of two new managers to its supply chain solutions team in the UK. Rob Brown has taken up the post of Head of Supply Chain Solutions, based at Kerry Logistics’ Manchester headquarters, whilst Nigel Moolenaar has joined as Head of Supply Chain Solution Implementation, based at the company’s Dartford office.

UK – Martin Palmer has been named as Wincanton’s new Commercial Director.

UK – Pall-Ex has announced a series of changes to its senior management team with former Palletline Managing Director Kevin Buchanan, appointed to the role of Group Managing Director. Former group MD Adrian Russell, will be moving to a new role on the Board, as Deputy Chairman. Chris Tancock has been promoted from Sales Director to Deputy Managing Director.

FRANCE – Ludovic Oster, Group HR Director, has been appointed to the Norbert Dentressangle Executive Board.

NETHERLANDS – Louis Dreyfus Commodities has appointed Mayo Schmidt as the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), with effect from January 5, 2015.

Schmidt will succeed interim CEO Claude Ehlinger, who will continue in his existing roles of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Louis Dreyfus Commodities and Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Biosev. Ehlinger is also promoted to the function of Deputy CEO of Louis Dreyfus Commodities.

SAUDI ARABIA – Saudia Cargo has announced that Peter Scholten, Vice President Commercial, will be leaving the company effective January 15, 2015 to pursue other interests. 

NORTH AMERICA – DHL has announced Andrew Williams to lead the Express organisation in Canada as Chief Executive Officer. Williams most recently served as the Vice President of Sales, DHL Express for the Americas Region. Williams replaces Greg Hewitt who served as DHL Express President since 2011. Hewitt will take on the role of Area General Manager, Northeast US for DHL Express USA.

US – UPS has announced several changes to senior staff with current Treasurer and Vice President of Corporate Finance Teresa Finley, promoted to Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and will join the UPS Management Committee. She will report to Alan Gershenhorn, Chief Commercial Officer. John McDevitt, Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Labour Relations, has announced his plan to retire after 38 years of service.

Teri McClure, currently Chief Legal, Communications and Compliance Officer, will lead Human Resources, Legal and Employee Communications staffs. Mitch Nichols, currently Senior Vice President of UPS Transportation and Engineering, will assume added responsibility for UPS Labour Relations.

Kurt Kuehn, Chief Financial Officer, will add the Audit and Compliance staff functions to his existing responsibilities. In addition, Richard Peretz, Corporate Controller, will be promoted to take an expanded role in Finance and Accounting, reporting to Kuehn. Peretz will serve as Corporate Controller for all UPS business units, and accept a new role as Corporate Treasurer.

Gershenhorn will assume responsibility for oversight of the UPS Public Affairs staff, led by Laura Lane, UPS President of Public Affairs. Also, Ed Buckley will be named President, Communications, and report to Gershenhorn.

US – The Port of Oakland has named ex-Maersk line veteran Beth Frisher as its new Manager of Maritime Business Development. She’ll be responsible for Sales, Marketing, Business Development and Customer Relations at the seaport.

US – The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Board of Directors has elected Wyoming Department of Transportation Director John Cox, as the association's President. Iowa Department of Transportation Director Paul Trombino III was elected Vice President.

US – Crowley Maritime announced that Ken Orben is being promoted to General Manager of Terminal Operations in Jacksonville, Florida, and Karen Dempsey is being promoted to Director of Port Operations in Pennsauken, New Jersey, effective January 1, 2015. Orben, current Director of Port Operations in Pennsauken, will relocate to Jacksonville and report to John Hourihan, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Puerto Rico services. Dempsey, who has been with Crowley for 32 years and is currently Manager of Port Administration in Pennsauken, will remain based there and report to Orben.

US – Westfalia Technologies has announced the appointment of Aaron Corcoran as Account Executive.
