UK - The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT). Professor Alan Waller OBE FCILT is the new International President of CILT, though International President-elect since only last May, Alan has taken over the role earlier than planned due to the sad death of former International President Len Harper FCILT of CILT Australia. Alan is no stranger to holding office within CILT, as he has been both Chairman and President of CILT(UK), and an International Vice President for five years.

SOUTH AFRICA - Damco, the logistics arm of the A.P. Moller – Maersk container and bulk shipping group, is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Shortley as its new Global Head of Aid and Relief. An American national with 18 years of international development experience, Thomas will spearhead Damco’s continuing growth in the Aid and Relief sector. Specifically, he will drive the global strategy, lead the dedicated Aid and Relief team, and raise Damco’s profile among other Aid and Relief agencies. He will formally assume the responsibility on 17 January and will be based in Cape Town

US – Here Damco has announced the appointment of Stefan P. Weber as Head of Carrier Management for North America. Stefan assumed this role from January 03, 2011 in Damco's North American head office in Madison, New Jersey. Stefan has a broad and international background within the logistics and supply chain management industry, having held several senior positions in global operations, business development and marketing management. Stefan joins Damco from forwarders Kuehne + Nagel (K+N) where for the last eight years he was focused on Route Management and Ocean Freight. Before joining K+N, Stefan worked for a multitude of companies and roles including Schenker, GeoLogistics and Panalpina.

SWITZERLAND - German born Rainer Weihofen will join Panalpina as the new Corporate Head of Communications on January 17, 2011 and will report directly to the CEO, Monika Ribar. With more than 15 years broad communications experience, he has largely worked for companies in the chemical industry such as Clariant and Hoechst and most recently Sika where he was Head of Corporate Communications & Investor Relations.bJörn Wagenbach, current Corporate Head of Communications has decided to leave Panalpina by the end of January in order to pursue a new challenge in a different branch.

SWITZERLAND - Agility, Kuwait based logistics provider recently appointed John Klompers as chief of commercial strategies. Overseeing air, sea, global sales and marketing as well as supply chain solutions, Klompers is focused on driving business growth on a global level. During his 20-year career, he has held senior management roles with Phillips, Mueller Air Freight, Panalpina and most recently, CEVA Logistics. John will be located in Agility’s headquarters in Baar, Switzerland.

US – Florida group Crowley Maritime Corporation confirm Tony Otero has been named vice president of Dominican Republic/Haiti and Cuba liner services. He will remain domiciled in the company's Jacksonville office and report to John Hourihan, senior vice president and general manager of Latin America services. Tony will be joined at Crowley by Amiee Cords who has joined as the new director of corporate information technology (IT) systems whilst David Nickless has been promoted to vice president of finance and planning for Crowley's shipping and logistics business line and Tucker Gilliam has been promoted to vice president of sales and chartering for Crowley's petroleum services team.

UK - The Rail Freight Group (RFG) has appointed David Spaven as its new Scotland Representative. David has a wide breadth of transport experience, as a rail freight marketing manager, a multi-modal freight consultant, and a sustainable transport campaigner. David takes over the role from Bill Ure, who has held the position for five years and who has now retired.
