UK – Appointments and departures of staff in the freight and logistics sector starts with news that the Port of Tyne has announced Mike Comerford as a non-Executive Director of its Board. Comerford brings with him over 30 years of experience in shipping, maritime safety and engineering having held previous senior roles within the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Lloyd's Register, and Bureau Veritas. He is also a non-Executive Director of ferry operator David MacBrayne.

UK – Andrew Haines OBE has joined Network Rail as its new Chief Executive, succeeding Mark Carne, who joined the company in January 2014. Haines previously served as Chief Executive of the Civil Aviation Authority.

UK – The Standard Syndicate, which focuses on providing a broad range of marine and non-marine insurance covers to the marine and marine energy industry sectors, has appointed Suzy Black to the role of Head of Liability. She will report to Robert Dorey, Active Underwriter at the Syndicate.

Black has worked in senior underwriting roles at a number of London Market Syndicates specialising in marine and has experience in energy and specie classes. 

UK – Hermes Logistics Technologies (HLT) has appointed Jacek Lechocki as Head of Products and Services. Lechocki, who is taking the helm on the Cargo and Quality Control teams, will be responsible for Hermes’ Cargo PM, Product PM and Help Desk services, as well as heading cargo sales efforts among other areas of the business.

UK – Leicestershire-based logistics firm, Core Management Logistics (CML), has announced Adrian Goodman as its new Finance Director. He will lead the Finance, IT and Site Services teams at CML.

CANADA – Ryan Hecht has been named to take over the role of Head of Heliship at Panalpina from Juerg Boschung in September. The Heliship team is based in Vancouver, Canada.

CANADA – Canadian National Railway (CN) has announced a series of changes to its Senior Management team. Doug Macdonald, former Vice President of Bulk, becomes Senior Vice president of Rail Centric Supply Chain Growth overseeing the execution and expansion of bulk and merchandise carload businesses. Keith Reardon, previously Vice President of Intermodal and Automotive, becomes Senior Vice President, Consumer Product Supply Chain Growth, overseeing the execution and expansion of intermodal and automotive businesses. Both will report directly to President and CEO JJ Ruest.

John Orr has been named SVP and Chief Transportation Officer, reporting to Mike Cory, EVP and COO. Orr most recently SVP of CN’s Southern Region.

Derek Taylor, previously General Manager of CN’s Southern Region Operations Centre, has been promoted to Vice President of CN’s Southern Region, based in Homewood, Illinois.

BRAZIL – Trelleborg’s offshore operation has appointed Erick Rocha as its new Business Development Manager for Brazil. He will be based out of Trelleborg’s Rio de Janeiro office and work as part of Trelleborg’s Brazil-based sales team.

MEXICO – US – Delta Air Lines Cargo has announced Rafael Figueroa as Managing Director of Cargo Operations and Customer Experience, a role previously held by Julian Soell. In the coming months, Figueroa will transition from Aeromexico Cargo to Delta Cargo and is part of an international talent exchange programme between the companies.

US – Union Pacific (UP) has announced several changes to its Executive team following the announcement that its Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Cameron Scott is planning to retire from February 28. He will serve as a company Vice President until then.

Effective immediately, UP announced a shift to its Network Planning and Operations functions with Tom Lischer named EVP, Operations, responsible for the company’s train operations throughout the railroad’s 23 states. He most recently led UP’s centralised train dispatching organisation since April 2017. He succeeds Scott.

David Giandinoto has been appointed Vice President, Harriman Dispatching Centre and Network Operations. He joined Union Pacific in 1994 and most recently served as Assistant Vice President, Locomotive Distribution and Network Operations. He succeeds Lischer

Beth Whited appointed as the Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. She served as EVP and Chief Marketing Officer since November 2016. Whited succeeds Sherrye Hutcherson, who is also leaving the company.

Kenny Rocker has been appointed Executive Vice President, Marketing and Sales. Rocker served as Vice President and General Manager of Union Pacific’s Industrial business since August 2016. He succeeds Whited.

Kari Kirchhoefer has been named Vice President, Industrial. She most recently served as Vice President, Customer Care & Support. Kirchhoefer has held numerous leadership positions during her 26-year Union Pacific career. She succeeds Rocker

Union Pacific’s Network Planning & Operations (NPO) function will shift its reporting structure to Lynden Tennison, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer to better align with the company’s strategic vision.

US – Textainer, lessors of intermodal containers, has announced that after 22 years with the company, Philip Brewer, President and Chief Executive Officer, has retired. As part of the succession planning process, Textainer's Board of Directors has appointed Olivier Ghesquiere, currently Executive Vice President - Leasing, to be the President and CEO, effective since August 13, 2018. Ghesquiere will also be appointed to the Company’s Board of Directors as a Class II director.

US – Air Partner has announced Jack Burt as its new Vice President of US Cargo. In his new role, Burt will be responsible for the implementation of air cargo strategy throughout North and South America, as well as the overall establishment of the US cargo division itself.

US – Navistar has announced Christian Schulz to its Board of Directors, effective immediately. Schulz replaces Matthias Gründler, who previously resigned from the Navistar board after serving more than a year as a Director. Schulz has been appointed to the board's finance committee. Schulz is currently the CFO of Volkswagen Truck & Bus, soon transforming into TRATON AG.

US – PINC has announced the appointment of Chris Sultemeier, former Executive Vice President of Logistics for Walmart, to the real-time digital inventory solutions firm's Board of Directors.

US – BorgWarner has announced Tonit Calaway, current Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, has been promoted to EVP, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary, effective immediately. She will report directly to President and CEO Frédéric Lissalde, and will oversee the Legal and the Reliability & Sustainability functions.

HONG KONG – U-Freight Group has announced the promotions of two executives. Joey Cheung, Assistant General Manager, and Alex Wong, e-Commerce Assistant General Manager, both work for U-Freight Hong Kong, and have been promoted to the roles of Vice President of the UFL Group and join the company’s Navigators Team, which consist of Senior Managers from across U-Freight's offices around the world.

SOUTH AFRICA – WORLDWIDE – It looks as if Richard Turner, Global Marine Director and European Director of Global Risk Solutions at RSA Insurance Group, will become the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) President when the organisation’s Council votes on the four year appointment in September. With present incumbent, Dieter Berg ending his term of office at this year's IUMI annual conference in Cape Town, Turner is the only candidate being put up by the Nominating Committee.
