Appointments and Departures - Freight Community Praises EU Piracy Guardian of Shipping

EUROPE – INDIAN OCEAN - On Wednesday 16 January 2013 Rear Admiral Duncan Potts handed over operational command of the European Union Naval Force (EU Navfor) to Rear Admiral Robert Tarrant. Rear Admiral Potts has commanded EU Navfor, the European Union’s counter piracy mission off Somalia, since August 2011. Admiral Potts, whose leadership whilst the combined navies have been guarding food convoys and shipping in general against piracy has been praised by many in the international freight community, leaves EU Navfor to take up a new role with the Royal Navy.

US – Less-than-Truckload specialists YRC Freight announced that Darren Hawkins has been named Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, effective January 14, 2013. Hawkins will report directly to Jeff Rogers, President of YRC Freight. Hawkins is returning to YRC Freight, where he previously had an 18-year career and served in a number of roles including director of field sales, service centre manager and account executive.

US – Agility has announced the appointment of Francesc Casamitjana as Regional Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of its Global Integrated Logistics business in the Americas. Effective January 1, 2013, Casamitjana replaces Mike Bible who moves to Europe as its Regional CEO. In his new role, Casamitjana will focus on continuing Agility’s growth in the Americas, which includes strong operations in the United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and Chile, among others.

US – Great Lakes Shipyard, part of marine transportation organisation the Great Lakes Group, recently announced three new management positions due to continued Shipyard expansion. Paul Deterding has been appointed as Vice President & General Manager, David Dudley has been appointed as Shipyard Foreman – New Construction & Repair and Paul Hendricks has been appointed as Assistant Vice President of New Construction.

US – OHL has promoted Randy Tucker, Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Project Management Officer to President of OHL Contract Logistics effectively immediately. Tucker’s predecessor, Bob Spieth will be leaving OHL to take an executive position with an eRetailer. Along with Tucker’s promotion, OHL simultaneously announced the promotions of John Grubor to Senior VP with responsibility for Solutions, Implementations and Engineering and Mike Honious to Executive VP of Contract Logistics taking on the additional responsibility for managing the operations and campuses located in the Southern US.

US – CSX Corporation has announced the appointment of Andrew Glassman as Vice President of Operations Finance. Glassman served as Assistant Vice President of Intermodal Marketing since 2010. He joined CSX in 2004 as Assistant Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis.

US – ModusLink Global Solutions™ announced that John Boucher will become its President and Chief Executive Officer and is expected to join the Company on January 28, 2013.

US – FedEx Corporation has announced that Henry Maier will succeed David Rebholz who is retiring as president and CEO of FedEx Ground effective May 31. In his new position, Maier will be responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of the FedEx Ground segment and he will also serve on the Strategic Management Committee of FedEx Corporation.

US – Integrated trucking and marine freight service provider Trailer Bridge, Inc. announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Chris Dombalis as a Board Member and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, effective January 16, 2013. Dombalis succeeds Frank Halliwell, who served as interim CEO since October 2012.

US – England Logistics has announced that it has named Jason Beardall as its new President. Jason Beardall, formerly Executive Vice President at England Logistics, will succeed Josh England, who was recently appointed Chief Financial Officer of England Logistics’ parent company, C.R. England.

US – PalFleet Truck Equipment, part of the PalFinger group, announced that Ed Gerken has been appointed company president. Gerken previously served as the company’s executive vice president.

NORWAY – Star Information Systems (SIS) has announced that Erik Staubo has rejoined the company as Head of Oil & Gas. Staubo spent three years at the company, until January 2006 – as Area Manager for the organisation’s shipping activities.

UK – As previously reported here the Stobart Group has replaced its non executive chairman Rodney Baker-Bates with new executive chairperson, Avril Palmer-Baunack who joined the company following Stobart’s acquisition of Autologic last year.

UK – RediRack Ltd has further strengthened its sales team with the appointment of Chris Booth to the position of National Accounts Manager. His appointment follows the recent announcement that Tim Judge has become RediRack’s new National Sales Manager

UK – Royal Mail Group announced that, effective from the January 14th, John Allan has been appointed a Non-Executive Director of the company. Allan is a former senior executive and corporate board member of Deutsche Post World Net

UK – DB Schenker has announced the appointment of Petra Kuester as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Schenker Limited. She will join towards the end of January replacing Per Holst-Nielsen who has moved back to Sweden to a position within Schenker AB. Kuester joins from a CFO position for DB Schenker in Canada.

LUXEMBOURG – Cargolux Airlines International announced changes to its Board of Directors following the acquisition by the Luxembourg State of a 35% stake in the airline from Qatar Airways on 31 December 2012. Cargolux’s Board of Directors elected Paul Helminger as its Chairman. Furthermore Alphonse Berns, Paul Mousel and Patrick Nickels were appointed as Directors to the Board.
