Annual Freight and Shipping Appointments and Departures End with a Hint of Scandal

Job Related Crime Reported Inside Chinese Carrier Leads to Board Level Dismissals

JAPAN – In our last round-up of appointments in the freight and shipping industry for 2014, we start with container and bulk cargo carrier NYK, which has announced changes to its senior management, with current Representative Director and Executive Vice President, Tadaaki Naito taking up the role of President, succeeding Yasumi Kudo, who becomes the new Chairman. Kudo replaces Koji Miyahara, who will become a Director and Board Counsellor of NYK. These appointments will come into effect on April 1, 2015.

CHINA – In news just in, China Southern Airlines, under instructions from its holding company and principal shareholder, has issued a statement saying that both Executive Vice President Chen Gang, and COO Flight Operations Tian Xiao Dong, have been removed from their respective positions in the company due to ‘suspicion of job related crime’. The Board voted unanimously to take this action and state it will have no effect on the company’s ordinary operations.

HONG KONG – BMT Asia Pacific has appointed Joanne Tse as Head of Risk Management, based in Hong Kong. Tse re-joins BMT after spending three years at Willis Insurance Brokers.

SINGAPORE – SINWA has appointed Alex van Zuijlen as Group Sales & Marketing Director, effective January 5, 2015. He takes over from Peter Schellenberger who leaves the post at the end of this year.

SINGAPORE – Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) has appointed Adrian Lau as Regional Human Resources and Organisation Development Director, Asia Pacific.

SWITZERLAND – Oliver Evans, Chief Cargo Officer at Swiss WorldCargo, is to relinquish his post at the end of September 2015 in order to pursue self-employment in the air logistics industry on his way into retirement.

NETHERLANDS – Eyefrieght has appointed Henk-Jan van Donkelaar as Sales Director for the Benelux region.

UK – Mike Corcoran has been appointed to the position of Commercial Truck Director for Volvo Trucks. In his new role, Mike will be responsible for the Volvo Trucks new trucks business - including fleet sales - in the UK and Ireland and reports directly to Arne Knaben, Volvo Trucks’ Managing Director.

UK – The Dover Harbour Board has named Samantha Parker and Neil Wiggins as the first Community Directors to join the Board.

UK – Rhenus UK's Group Development Director, Michael Gregory has announced his retirement, effective immediately. Gregory will be continuing to act as an Export Specialist Consultant to Rhenus UK in the coming year on a part time basis to ensure the smooth transition following his departure.

GREENLAND – Jens Andersen, CEO of the Royal Arctic Line is to step down from his role after deciding against renegotiating his contract which will expire in the coming months. Andersen will continue in the role until a suitable successor has been found.

NORWAY – DNV GL's President and CEO, Henrik O. Madsen has been appointed as Chairman of the Executive Board of the Research Council of Norway.

US – Con-way Multimodal has announced Gregory Orr as its new President. Orr previously was Vice President of Operations for Con-way Multimodal.
