A Rash of New Year Appointments and Staff Departures from Air Freight to Shipping and Forwarding

Numerous Companies in the Supply Chain Make Changes to Logistics Personnel This Week

WORLDWIDE – This week’s additions, departures and sideways shifts of logistics related staff are particularly numerous, and range throughout the supply chain, from the freight forwarding community to packaging specialists, but begin with container shipping group APL which has made a series of changes to its senior management in an effort to realign its organisational structure, moving away from the current geographically-organised structure to a functional one. The appointments will be in the areas of Trade, Commercial, Operations, Procurement and Planning & Strategy. APL’s new leadership team will, effective February 10, consist of Peter Jongepier as Chief Commercial Officer, Calvin Leong as Chief Trade Officer, Nathaniel Seeds as Chief Operations Officer and Jason Wong as Chief Procurement Officer.

SINGAPORE – The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has appointed Conrad Clifford as Regional Vice President for Asia Pacific. Clifford joins IATA on 1 February 2014 and will be based in its Asia Pacific Regional Office in Singapore. He succeeds Maunu von Lueders, who is retiring from IATA on 14 March 2014.

SOUTH KOREA – As of December 24, 2013, Executive Vice President of Korean Air Cho Won-tae has become appointed CEO of Hanjin KAL Holdings, which amongst other activities, looks after sales at Korean Air. The appointment is seen as the conglomerate's move to speed up Cho's succession of the group control from his father Cho Yang-ho, who is currently Chairman of the group. The position of CEO became available after former CEO Suk Tae-soo took up the role of President and CEO of Hanjin Shipping.

Cho Won-tae’s sister and the airline’s Vice President Cho Hyun-min, was promoted to Senior Vice President of Korean Air. Her major tasks are communications and PR activities. The group also promoted 23 other Executives, including Seo Yong-won, who moved from Senior Executive Vice President of KAL, to President of Hanjin Corp.

SOUTH KOREA –Kim Soo-cheon has taken up the role of President of Asiana Airlines, as of January 1. Kim replaces Yoon Yong-doo who served as CEO since 2009. Yoon will still be involved at the airline acting in an advisory capacity.

THAILAND – FRANCE – Ford’s Director of Material Planning and Logistics (MP&L) Asia Pacific, Rick DeMuro has announced his retirement. Current MP&L Asia Pacific Regional Manager Robert Laurila has been announced as DeMuro’s successor and he will continue to be based in Thailand. Ford has also appointed Steve McKelvey as its new Director of Parts Supply and Logistics at the group’s headquarters in Cologne. His predecessor Raymond Damerow has moved over to a Sales Position in Europe.

FRANCE – Michel Denis has been appointed President and CEO of the Manitou Group following the resignation of Dominique Bamas after he was hired on an interim basis in March 2013. Denis will assume his new role on January 13, for a four year term expiring at the Shareholders’ Meeting for the approval of 2017 financial statements.

GERMANY – Jochen Freese has been named as the new Chief Commercial Officer at Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, effective since January 1. Freese assumed the position of COO and leads the Business Development and Sales of Hellmann. Based in Hamburg, Freese has taken over some of the tasks of Jost Hellmann, one of the Managing Directors. Jost Hellmann will concentrate more on his role as Co-CEO of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics and his strategic tasks as one of the Managing Directors.

UK – A minor shake-up in the Department of Transport means that, as of January 1, responsibility for motoring agencies, freight and logistics issues are being switched from Robert Goodwill MP to Stephen Hammond MP.

UK – Bibby Ship Management Group Ltd has announced the appointment of Mark Robertshaw as its new commercial director. His responsibilities will also include the role of new Managing Director for Bibby Ship Management’s Western Europe office, based in the Isle of Man.

UK – Golden Valley Pallet Wrap Specialists (GVPS) has announced two changes to its senior management team with former Operations Director Martyn Sumner taking the role of Managing Director and Commercial Director Mike Wardell appointed as Sales Director. Sumner takes over from Suzanne Griffiths following her recent retirement.

UK – BiS Henderson has announced the appointment of Paul Brooks as Managing Director of the newly formed BiS Henderson Academy. Brooks joins from Unipart Logistics where he was a Board Director with responsibility for global sales. He is also Chairman of Skills for Logistics and President Elect of The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT).

SWITZERLAND – Swissport has appointed former Daniel Setz as its new Senior Vice President, Cargo Operations. Setz reports directly to Nils Pries Knudsen, Head of Global Cargo Services.

NORWAY – Elisabeth Tørstad has been appointed CEO at DNV GL - Oil & Gas. She took on the role from January 2014, operating from the company’s Oil & Gas headquarter in Oslo. She succeeds Pekka Paasivaara, who decided to leave the company for personal reasons.

RUSSIA – The Head of GAZ Group’s Light Commercial Vehicles division, Vadim Sorokin has been appointed President and CEO of GAZ Group, as of January 1. He will also continue his duties at the LCV division in addition to his new responsibilities at the top of the group. GAZ has also appointed Günther Heiden to the newly created role of Chief Operating Officer with Dr. Albrecht Köhler soon to be joining the management team as Director on Business and Corporate Development.

BRAZIL – As of December 2, 2013, Roberto Moreno took over the responsibility as CEO of Schenker do Brasil Transportes Internacionais His predecessor Eric Brenner will concentrate on his responsibility as CEO Latin Americas DB Schenker Logistics.

THE AMERICAS – Maersk Line veteran Craig Mygatt has become the CEO of Maersk SeaLand and will be located in the US.

US – Senior Vice President of Policy and Regulatory Affairs Dave Osiecki will also oversee the American Trucking Association’s (ATA) legislative affairs efforts and team, following the departure of Mary Phillips. Former Senior Vice President of Legislative Affairs Phillips left the ATA on January 7 to open her own consulting firm.

US – Intelligrated has appointed Chris Lingamfelter as Vice President, Integrated System Sales and Strategy. He will report directly to Jim McCarthy, President and COO.

US – Integrated Systems Design (ISD) has promoted Thomas Pawlowicz to Senior Account Executive.

US – Saddle Creek Logistics Services has named Current President Cliff Otto as its CEO, effective immediately.

US – Auto Truck Group has announced the appointments of three new Executives. Pete Dondlinger has been named Vice President of Operations; Brad Blanco has been named Vice President of IT, Finance, and Administration; and Pam Bodzioch has been named HR Manager. 

US– AmeraMex International has named Kevin Atkin as its Chief Financial Officer and a member of its Board of Directors. Atkin has been working with AmeraMex International as a financial consultant since September 2013. Atkin now reports directly to CEO Lee Hamre.  

US – Henke Manufacturing has appointed Matt Hood as Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

US – MOL (America) has announced that from January 17 Richard Jung, currently assistant vice president of sales, central region, has been appointed to assume the duties of vice president of sales after Dennis Sheehan, decided to leave to pursue other opportunities. Mr Jung will report to Richard Craig, who has been promoted to the position of executive vice president, sales and operations.

UAE – tna, a company which produces packaging and other types of machinery has announced the appointment of Mukul Shukla as General Manager for the Middle East. He will be based in Dubai and oversee all of tna’s operations in the region.
