Shipping News Feature UK – Sad news starts this week's round-up of freight industry appointments, with the announcement from Wincanton of the sudden death of its Chairman, Steve Marshall. Marshall had been chairman of the Chippenham-headquartered logistics company since December 2011 bought a wealth of senior business experience and wisdom to the role. Stewart Oades, Wincanton's Senior Independent Director, will assume the role of Chairman on an interim basis.

UK – BIS Henderson Recruitment has announced a series of appointments. Tom Birrane, Sarah Saunders, and Helen Hiscock have been named as Consultants. Danielle Wykes has taken on the role of Business Development Manager.

UK – Bibby Distribution has named Jonathan Vivian as its new Regional General Manager, with responsibility for warehouse operations in southern Britain.

UK – Paul Haworth has joined the specialist Shipping and International Trade Team as a Legal Director at law firm, Birketts, based at the firm's Ipswich office.

Prior to joining Birketts, Haworth was a Master Mariner who sailed as Captain on various DP Class 2 vessels engaged in dive support and offshore construction before coming ashore and qualifying as a solicitor in 2009. He subsequently became a Partner at a niche shipping law firm in London and is experienced in all aspects of shipping law. Haworth has a particular specialism in collisions, groundings and salvages and is experienced in ‘dry’ charterparty disputes.

GERMANY – JF Hillebrand has appointed Cees van Gent to take over from Christophe Bernard as Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1. Bernard will remain with the company to assist with the transition until March 2018.

GERMANY – NETHERLANDS – SAL Heavy Lift's newly launched Marine Projects division will be headed by Sune Thorleifsson. Julia Wildt and Mike Grant will also join the team.

Marine Projects is based in the SAL headquarters in Hamburg as an integrated part of SAL Heavy Lift. In addition, a new branch office will be established in Rotterdam where Erik ter Horst, Matthieu Moerman, and Michiel Rijkaert – all of whom are well known in the Benelux region as offshore specialists – will be based.

DENMARK – Michael Krabbe will join Maersk Supply Service as its new Chief Financial Officer from December 1, heading the Business Services function. Krabbe currently holds the position of CFO in Welltec and brings with him six years of senior finance management experience. He succeeds Kasper Mahon Andreasen, who joined Damco in a similar position. Krabbe will report to CEO Steen Karstensen and will be a member of the Senior Management team.

FRANCE – ID Logistics has announced the appointment of Marco van Walraven as Managing Director of the Benelux subsidiaries, reporting to Christophe Satin, the group's Chief Operating Officer. He succeeds Vincent Fontaine who will remain with the company ensuring a smooth transition until the end of the year, when he will retire.

BELGIUM – The European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) has appointed Martin Dorsman as its new Secretary General in Brussels effective November 1. Dorsman will transfer to ECSA from the Royal Association of Netherlands Shipowners (KVNR) where he has held the position of Managing Director since 2011.

RUSSIA – RZD Logistics has re-elected Vyacheslav Valentik as CEO to September 21, 2020. He was first appointed to the role in August 2016, and is a member of the Company’s Board of Directors. He is also a Chairman of the Board of Euro Rail Trans, a Member of the Board of Directors of FELB, Member of the Supervisory Board of GEFCO, and a Member of the Board of Directors of JSC Federal Freight.

US – Norfolk Southern has announced Fredric Ehlers as Chief Information Officer (CIO), effective immediately. In this new role, Ehlers will continue serving as Vice President of Information Technology, a position he has held since 2013. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, he will continue reporting to Cynthia Earhart, Executive Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer, who previously service as CIO.

US – Union Pacific has announced a series of changes to its senior management team. Jon Panzer, currently Vice President of Planning and Analysis, has been named as Vice President and Treasurer, effective December 1, when he will succeed Mary Jones who has announced her retirement after 37 years with the company. Jones will remain to help with the transition, becoming Senior Vice President – Finance. Jennifer Hamann, Vice President and General Manager – Automotive has been named to take over Panzer's role as VP – Planning and Analysis,

Bryan Clark has been appointed Vice President – Tax, to succeed and Pat O’Malley, who has also announced his retirement, effective November 30, after 33 years with Union Pacific.

US – Southwest Airlines has promoted Linda Rutherford to Senior Vice President of Chief Communications Officer. With the promotion, Rutherford will add the Company's Culture Services Department to her oversight and will report to Executive Vice President Corporate Services Bob Jordan, while continuing to work directly with Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gary Kelly on communication efforts and Culture activities.

US – Lightning Systems has announced William Kelley as its new Chief Technology Officer.

US – Metro Supply Chain has announced the appointment of Martin Street as its new Business Lead, US Automotive and Specialist Sectors.

US – Cubic Global Defense has announced James Craig as Vice President and General Manager of Ground Training Systems.

CANADA – PUDO has announced several senior management changes, all effective October 6. Thomas Bijou, currently a Director at PUDO, has been named to become the company’s new Chairman of the Board of Directors. CEO Frank Coccia will be transitioning to the role of Chief Strategy Officer, with Kurtis Arnold, a Director, moving to the position of CEO. Matt McDonough, currently VP Network Development will be transitioning to the role of Chief Operating Officer.
