Shipping News Feature AUSTRIA – Logistics specialists DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Freight have signed a purchase agreement for a property in the immediate vicinity of Vienna International Airport. As of summer 2018, DHL Campus Vienna Airport is to be built on an area of around 60,000 square metres in the Fischamend municipality and is intended as an important role as a freight hub for DHL traffic in Eastern Europe in the future.

The joint cooperation of DHL Global Forwarding with DHL Freight is intended to more easily exploit the synergies of the different transport modes of land, air and sea freight. Both divisions will each build a warehouse and office building on the new property, bringing it closer to the airport in terms of infrastructure. To date, DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Freight have launched their operations from three locations in Vienna, which are now merging into the new campus.

DHL says the new developments will not only include safety and security standards to TAPA A, but also meet the highest ecological standards, Deutsche Post DHL Group has a policy to reduce all logistics related emissions to zero by 2050. In addition to alternative propulsion systems and green transport solutions, sustainable measures in the construction and modernisation of group sites play an important role in achieving this goal.

The facilities will have more docks and, for the first time, cross-docks. The newly acquired property is located on the A4 motorway, which connects the airport with the centre of Vienna, and Hermann Filz, CEO Eastern Europe, DHL Global Forwarding, commented:

"The good connection to Eastern Europe in particular plays a decisive role for us, as we are able to serve this market even better through our joint settlement with DHL Freight and the airport within striking distance.”
